The Mae Long Formation in the Li Basin (also referred to as Li Mae Long) is a fossil site in Lamphun Province, Thailand. Geological Formation
A geological formation, or simply formation, is a body of rock having a consistent set of physical characteristics ( lithology) that distinguishes it from adjacent bodies of rock, and which occupies a particular position in the layers of rock exposed in a geographical region (the stratigraphic column). It is the fundamental unit of lithostratigraphy, the study of strata or rock layers. A formation must be large enough that it can be mapped at the surface or traced in the subsurface. Atlantoxerus
The Barbary ground squirrel (''Atlantoxerus getulus'') is a species of rodent in the family Sciuridae. It is monotypic within the genus ''Atlantoxerus''. It is endemic to the Atlas mountains in Morocco and some parts in Algeria, and has been introduced into the Canary Islands. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry shrubland, temperate grassland and rocky areas where it lives colonially in burrows. Slow lorises are a group of several species of nocturnal strepsirrhine primates that make up the genus ''Nycticebus''. ''Tupaia miocenica'' is a fossil treeshrew from the Miocene of Thailand. Known only from a single tooth, an upper first or second molar, it is among the few known fossil treeshrews. With a length of 3.57 mm, the tooth is large for a treeshrew. At the back lingual corner (the side of the tongue), the tooth shows a small cusp, the hypocone, that is separated from the protocone in front of it by a narrow valley. The condition of the hypocone distinguishes this species from various other treeshrews. In addition, the presence of a well-developed but simple mesostyle (a small cuspule) is distinctive. The treeshrews (or tree shrews or banxrings) are small mammals native to the tropical forests of South and Southeast Asia.
