Les Satellites
Les Satellites (The Satellites) is a French alternative rock band that was formed in 1985 and split up in 1994. History The band was born in late 1985 on the ashes of underground acts Tonton est mort and Abject. They play a mix of 60's influenced rock and funk with the addition of brass instruments. The lyrics are resolutely humoristic and careless. In 1986, they started touring with then popular alternative French bands Bérurier Noir, Ludwig von 88, Les Wampas and Mano Negra and played on stage dressed as cosmonauts. They gained an important success with their second album '' Riches et célèbres'' (Rich and famous) that allowed them to play in some of Paris's biggest concert halls such as the Olympia hall. Reggae influences appear on the third album '' Pied Orange'' (Orange foot) and a 4 tracks EP is recorded in 1993 with the raggamuffin artist Saï Saï. The musicians decide to disband in 1994 after the promotion tour for the fourth album "4". Singer Polo started a solo car ...

Paris
Paris () is the capital and most populous city of France, with an estimated population of 2,165,423 residents in 2019 in an area of more than 105 km² (41 sq mi), making it the 30th most densely populated city in the world in 2020. Since the 17th century, Paris has been one of the world's major centres of finance, diplomacy, commerce, fashion, gastronomy, and science. For its leading role in the arts and sciences, as well as its very early system of street lighting, in the 19th century it became known as "the City of Light". Like London, prior to the Second World War, it was also sometimes called the capital of the world. The City of Paris is the centre of the Île-de-France region, or Paris Region, with an estimated population of 12,262,544 in 2019, or about 19% of the population of France, making the region France's primate city. The Paris Region had a GDP of €739 billion ($743 billion) in 2019, which is the highest in Europe. According to the Economist Intelli ...

Paris Olympia
The Olympia (; commonly known as L'Olympia or in the English-speaking world as Olympia Hall) is a concert venue in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, France, located at 28 Boulevard des Capucines, equally distancing Madeleine church and Opéra Garnier, north of Vendôme square. Its closest métro/RER stations are Madeleine, Opéra, Havre – Caumartin, and Auber. The hall was opened in 1893 by one of the two co-creators of the Moulin Rouge venue, and saw many opera, ballet, and music hall performances. Theatrical performances declined in the late 1920s and the Olympia was converted into a cinema, before re-opening as a venue in 1954 with Bruno Coquatrix as executive director. Since the 1960s, it has been a popular venue for rock bands. The Olympia was threatened with demolition in the early 1990s, but saved by a preservation order. Inevitably included in a group of buildings that were part of an extensive renovation project, the entire edifice was demolished and rebuilt in ...

Parabellum (French Band)
Parabellum is an alternative rock and French punk band which formed in 1984. The band was active from 1984 to 1991. After a split-up in 1991, they re-formed in 1998 and resumed touring until the death of Schultz, singer and original member of the band in 2014. Origin of name The name of the band comes from the Latin adage ''Si vis pacem, para bellum'' (If you want peace, prepare for war). Bibliography The group was originally founded in 1984 by Géant-Vert, at the time manager of Les Porte-Mentaux, a parisian punk rock band. BB Rock, singer of les Porte-Mentaux, considering the lyrics Géant-Vert submitted him, suggests him to set up his own band. Géant-Vert then gathered musicians by recruiting two former members of les Porte-Mentaux: Schultz (his real name, Roger Fritsch) on guitar and Roland Chamarat (nicknamed Roland Chamallow) on bass. The band is completed a little later by Cambouis (whose real name is Jean-François Juvanon) on drums. The name of the band is based on t ...

Los Carayos
Los Carayos was a French band which released four albums between 1986 and 1994. They were active mostly in Paris in the mid-1980s, but side interests of the musicians, notably of Manu Chao, did not allow the band to take off. Their songs were largely of a parodic style, mixing rockabilly, punk, blues, and various genres of folk from throughout the world, especially country, and hispanic music. They were also influenced by Italian composer Ennio Morricone, who is famous for his work in movie soundtracks. Name ''Carallo'' (Galician spelling) or ''caralho'' (Portuguese one, both pronounced the same) are slang words with several meanings including "penis". Members The members of Los Carayos have gone on to achieve success in separate projects on the French and world music scenes. The group members include: * François Hadji-Lazaro (also in Pigalle and Les Garçons Bouchers): vocals and diverse instruments * Manu Chao (also being in the Hot Pants, then founding Mano Negra): vocals ...

Ragga
Raggamuffin music, usually abbreviated as ragga, is a subgenre of dancehall and reggae music. The instrumentals primarily consist of electronic music. Similar to hip hop, sampling often serves a prominent role in raggamuffin music. Wayne Smith's " Under Mi Sleng Teng", produced by King Jammy in 1985 on a Casio MT-40 synthesizer, is generally recognized as the seminal ragga song. "Sleng Teng" boosted Jammy's popularity immensely, and other producers quickly released their own versions of the riddim, accompanied by dozens of different vocalists. Ragga is now mainly used as a synonym for dancehall reggae or for describing dancehall with a deejay chatting rather than singjaying or singing on top of the riddim. Origins Ragga originated in Jamaica during the 1980s, at the same time that electronic dance music's popularity was increasing globally. One of the reasons for ragga's swift propagation is that it is generally easier and less expensive to produce than reggae performed on ...

Pied Orange
A piebald or pied animal is one that has a pattern of unpigmented spots (white) on a pigmented background of hair, feathers or scales. Thus a piebald black and white dog is a black dog with white spots. The animal's skin under the white background is not pigmented. Location of the unpigmented spots is dependent on the migration of melanoblasts (primordial pigment cells) from the neural crest to paired bilateral locations in the skin of the early embryo. The resulting pattern appears symmetrical only if melanoblasts migrate to both locations of a pair and proliferate to the same degree in both locations. The appearance of symmetry can be obliterated if the proliferation of the melanocytes (pigment cells) within the developing spots is so great that the sizes of the spots increase to the point that some of the spots merge, leaving only small areas of the white background among the spots and at the tips of the extremities. Animals with this pattern may include birds, cats, cat ...

Reggae
Reggae () is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s. The term also denotes the modern popular music of Jamaica and its diaspora. A 1968 single by Toots and the Maytals, " Do the Reggay" was the first popular song to use the word "reggae", effectively naming the genre and introducing it to a global audience. While sometimes used in a broad sense to refer to most types of popular Jamaican dance music, the term ''reggae'' more properly denotes a particular music style that was strongly influenced by traditional mento as well as American jazz and rhythm and blues, and evolved out of the earlier genres ska and rocksteady. Reggae usually relates news, social gossip, and political commentary. It is instantly recognizable from the counterpoint between the bass and drum downbeat and the offbeat rhythm section. The immediate origins of reggae were in ska and rocksteady; from the latter, reggae took over the use of the bass as a percussion instrument. Reggae is d ...
