Les Main
Leslie Llewellyn James Main (26 November 1915 – 28 November 1998) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Main became a coach after leaving Collingwood and had success in the Hampden Football League with Warrnambool, which he guided to premierships in 1946 and 1947. He spent the 1948 season as coach of New South Wales club, Leeton, losing the preliminary final by four points and Main was runner up in the South West Football League (New South Wales) The South West District Football League was a major Australian rules football competition which ran from 1910 until 1981 in the Riverina region of New South Wales. Clifton Hill is an inner-city suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, north-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Yarra local government area. The South West District Football League was a major Australian rules football competition which ran from 1910 until 1981 in the Riverina region of New South Wales. History The first recorded Australian Rules Football match in the Riverina area was on the 1st August, 1881 between Wagga Wagga and the more experienced Albury team and was played in Wagga. The South West District Football Association (SWDFL) was formed in 1913, when it superseded the Ganmain Football Association, which was formed in 1910, with all clubs moving into play in the SWDFL competition. In 1924 a South Western District Football League team played Collingwood Football Club at Narrandera with Collingwood winning, 86 to SWDFL 76. In May, 1930 the SWDFL competition was abandoned, after Whitton withdrew earlier at the AGM, then both Ganmain and Matong club withdrew due to a lack of players. The Warrnambool Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Blues'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the city of the same name. Warrnambool teams compete in the Hampden Football Netball League, where the football squad has played since 1933. History The origins of the clubs can be traced back to 1861, when a "football" match was played in Warrnambool. The club was formed shortly after, being one of the oldest football clubs in Australia. In 1913 the club won its first premiership, playing in the Western District Football Association. Warrnambool entered into recess in 1915 due to World War I, returning to action in 1920 under the named "Warrnambool City".
