Albury Football Club
The Albury Football Club, nicknamed the ''Tigers'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in Albury, a major regional city in New South Wales. Albury football and netball squads compete in the Ovens & Murray Football League. Club history On Saturday night, 3 June 1876, upwards of twenty gentlemen of the town of Albury assembled at Day's Commercial Chambers for the purpose of establishing a football club. The chair was occupied by Mr. M P Ryan. It was resolved on the proposal of Mr. John Day 'That a football club be established to be designated the Albury Football Club.' The following gentlemen were office bearers for the ensuing year – President – Mr. John Day, Treasurer and Secretary – Mr. Phillips. The committee agreed to adopt the Victorian rules of football. Ovens & Murray Football League
The Ovens and Murray Football Netball League (O&MFNL) is an Australian rules football and netball competition containing ten clubs based in north-eastern Victoria, the southern Riverina region of New South Wales and the Ovens and Murray area. The name comes from the Ovens River, the river in the part of north-eastern Victoria covered by the league, and the Murray River, which separates Victoria and New South Wales. The league features three grades in the Australian rules football competition, with these being First-Grade, Reserve-Grade and Under 18s. In the netball competition, there are four grades, with these being A-Grade, B-Grade, C-Grade and Under 16s. Currently a home and away season consisting of eighteen rounds is played. The best five teams then play off according to the McIntyre System, culminating in the O&MFNL Grand Final, which from 1995 to 2017 was held at the Lavington Sports Ground in the Albury suburb of Hamilton Valley. Albury is the seat of local government for the council area which also bears the city's name – the City of Albury. It is on the Victoria-New South Wales border. Tim Scott (footballer)
Tim Scott (born 12 December 1971) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with the Sydney Swans in the Australian Football League (AFL). Scott was a mature age recruit for Sydney, drafted after two standout seasons for Albury in the Ovens & Murray Football League, where he won back to back Morris Medals in 1993 and 1994. The second of those awards was shared, with John Kingston of Corowa-Rutherglen, but he became the first Albury player to win it twice. He came to the Swans as one of three zone selections from the 1994 AFL Draft, along with Leo Barry and Justin Crawford. Rod Coelli
Rod Coelli (born 23 April 1955) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Coelli was recruited from the Narrandera Imperials, in New South Wales. He made three appearances late in the 1975 VFL season and then didn't play a single senior game in 1976. He joined Sandringham in 1977 and was a member of the grand final losing team that year. In 1981, after 53 games for Sandringham, Coelli returned to his home state and signed with Albury. Lance Mann
Lance Gibson Mann (12 July 1930 – 13 March 2015) was a professional footrunner and a former Australian rules footballer in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Footballer A talented wingman, Mann started his football career in Walwa, before playing with Albury Football Club in the Ovens & Murray Football League. He played his first senior match for the Essendon Football Club against Fitzroy at the Brunswick Street Oval on 2 June 1951 (round 6). He played in every match for the rest of the season. He played in Essendon's Grand Final 10.10 (70) loss to Geelong 11.15 (81), and was one of Essendon's best players. Noel Barnett
Noel Leon Barnett (22 November 1908 – 21 July 2000) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Barnett made 11 appearances for Melbourne in the 1933 VFL season, after arriving from West Albury Football Club. While he was in Melbourne in 1933, West Albury changed its name to the Albury Football Club and Barnett returned to play with the Albury and took over from Cleaver Bunton as captain-coach for the final few games in 1934. Fitzroy Football Club
The Fitzroy Football Club is an Australian rules football club currently competing in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA). Formed in 1883 to represent the inner-Melbourne municipality of Fitzroy, the club was a member of the Victorian Football Association (VFA), before becoming a foundation member of the breakaway Victorian Football League (VFL/AFL) in 1897. Fitzroy won a total of eight VFL premierships, of which seven (1898, 1899, 1904, 1905, 1913, 1916 and 1922) were won whilst they were nicknamed the Maroons and one (1944) as the Gorillas. The decision of the club to change its nickname to the Lions in 1957 coincided with what history now records as the beginning of decades of poor on-field performance and financial losses that eventually resulted in the club being placed into administration, ultimately leaving the AFL at the end of the 1996 season.
