Leonie Kooiker
Leonie Kooiker (20 October 1927 – 16 April 2020) was a Dutch children's writer. She was born in Markelo, Netherlands. She published for the children's magazine '' Kris Kras''. Her first book ('), won her the Gouden Griffel. Her book ''Het Oerlanderboek'' won her the Vlag en Wimpel award. Kooiker died in Papendrecht, Netherlands on 16 April 2020, aged 92. Markelo
Markelo (; nds-nl, Maarkel) is a village in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is located in the municipality of Hof van Twente, about west of Hengelo and south-west of Almelo. Markelo was a separate municipality between 1818 and 2001, when it became a part of Hof van Twente. Overview Markelo developed on the east flank of the . It was first mentioned in 1188 as Marclo, and means either "forest near communal ground" or "forest near border". The Dutch Reformed Church has a 15th century tower, but the building dates from 1840. In 1818, it became an independent municipality. In 1840, it was home to 793 people. In 1836, the gristmill ''De Hoop'' was built near Markelo. It has been restored in 1991. Markelo used to be an agricultural village, however the eastern side of the village has become a residential zone. In 2001, it became part of Hof van Twente. Kris Kras
The kris, or ''keris'' in the Indonesian language, is an asymmetrical dagger with distinctive blade-patterning achieved through alternating laminations of iron and nickelous iron (''pamor''). Of Javanese origin, the kris is famous for its distinctive wavy blade, although many have straight blades as well, and is one of the weapons commonly used in the '' pencak silat'' martial art native to Indonesia. A kris can be divided into three parts: blade ( or ), hilt (), and sheath (). Each part of the kris is considered a piece of art, often carved in meticulous detail and made from various materials: metal, precious or rare types of wood, or gold or ivory. Gouden Griffel
The Gouden Griffel (Golden Stylus) is an award given to authors of children's or teenagers' literature in the Netherlands. History Since 1971, it is awarded each year during the Dutch Children's Books Week, by the Stichting Collectieve Propaganda van het Nederlandse Boek (Dutch Book Promotion Society) for the best children's books written in the past year. Between 1954 and 1970, one book per year was declared the "children's book of the year". Since then, ''griffels'' are awarded in several categories. Only novels written in Dutch are eligible for the ''gouden griffel''. However, the runner-up awards (Silver ''griffels'') can also be given to translated works. Aside from these, the ''Gouden Penseel'' (golden paintbrush) is awarded to the best illustrated children's books (with silver ''penseel'' as a runner-up), and since 1997 the Gouden Zoen (golden kiss, with silver as a runner-up) is awarded to the best books for teenagers. Papendrecht
Papendrecht () is a town and municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland, at the crossing of the River Beneden Merwede and the Noord River. The municipality had a population of in and covers an area of of which is water. Although Papendrecht is first mentioned in documents dating back to 1105, it remained a small settlement until the 1950s.
