Gouden Griffel
The Gouden Griffel (Golden Stylus) is an award given to authors of children's or teenagers' literature in the Netherlands. History Since 1971, it is awarded each year during the Dutch Children's Books Week, by the Stichting Collectieve Propaganda van het Nederlandse Boek (Dutch Book Promotion Society) for the best children's books written in the past year. Between 1954 and 1970, one book per year was declared the "children's book of the year". Since then, ''griffels'' are awarded in several categories. Only novels written in Dutch are eligible for the ''gouden griffel''. However, the runner-up awards (Silver ''griffels'') can also be given to translated works. Aside from these, the ''Gouden Penseel'' (golden paintbrush) is awarded to the best illustrated children's books (with silver ''penseel'' as a runner-up), and since 1997 the Gouden Zoen (golden kiss, with silver as a runner-up) is awarded to the best books for teenagers. Guus Kuijer
Guus Kuijer (; born 1 August 1942) is a Dutch author. He wrote books for children and adults, and is best known for the ''Madelief'' series of children's books. For his career contribution to "children's and young adult literature in the broadest sense" he won the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award from the Swedish Arts Council in 2012, the biggest prize in children's literature. As a children's writer he was one of five finalists for the biennial, international Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2008. Early life Guus Kuijer is born on 1 August 1942 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. His parents were members of the Catholic Apostolic Church, but in 2006 Kuijer explained that he doesn't remember ever believing in God. Bernard Gerrit (Burny) Bos (Haarlem, 8 April 1944) is a Dutch producer, scenarist and children's book writer. He also works as an actor in children's programmes on radio and T.V. Career Bos started working with the AVRO-radio. In 1975 he received an honorable mention from the "Zilveren Reissmicrofoon" jury for the '' Ko de boswachtershow'' (radio) and in 1977 for '' Radio Lawaaipapegaai''. In 1981 the Zilveren Nipkowschijf jury gave him another honorable mention for the TV-series ''Lawaaipapegaai''. In 1983 he received the Zilveren Reissmicrofoon for his entire radio-oeuvre. Theodora Beckmann (née Petie; 23 July 1923 – 5 May 2004), better known by her pen name Thea Beckman, was a Dutch author of children's books. Biography At a young age, Beckman knew she wanted to be a writer. As a teenager, she would write numerous stories and would listen to various types of music, ranging from classic to exciting film scores, depending on the kind of scene she was writing. in her twenties, Beckman studied social psychology, attending the University of Utrecht. In wake of the 1929 economic crisis, her father lost his job and Beckman was glad she had managed to finish her studies, especially after World War II occurred. As a writer, she intended to use her husband's name of Beckmann as her pseudonym. Nina Bawden CBE, FRSL, JP (19 January 1925 – 22 August 2012) was an English novelist and children's writer. She was shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 1987 and the Lost Man Booker Prize in 2010. Thé Tjong-Khing (; born August 4, 1933) is a children's book illustrator based in the Netherlands. He was born in Purworedjo, Java to a large Chinese Indonesian family. As a child he was interested in the Tarzan comic strips of Edgar Rice Burroughs. Thé attended the ''Seni Rupa'' (arts) institute in Bandung. He came to the Netherlands in 1956 and started as a draftsman at the ''Toonder Studio's'', initially as a volunteer and later as an employee. In addition to his work on Oliver B. Bumble comics, he also contributed to the magazine ''Tina'' and created ''Arman & Ilva''. In 1970 he was asked to provide illustration for Miep Diekmann's children's book. He is known for his crime novels about the Italian-American Mafia and Sicilian Mafia, most notably ''The Godfather'' (1969), which he later co-adapted into a film trilogy directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
