Leonard Singer
Leonard Ian Singer (27 January 1943 – 27 December 2023) was a British politician and pharmacist based in Ramsey, Isle of Man. Life and career Leonard Ian Singer was born in Manchester on 27 January 1943. He qualified as a pharmacist in 1966. He resided in Portugal and Tenerife. He moved to the Island in 1989 and set up Singers Pharmacy in Ramsey, Isle of Man. He was involved in local politics as a member of Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council from 1973 until 1986, and as a Ramsey Town Commissioner from 1991 to 1996. In 1996, he was elected as an MHK for Ramsey and in 2003 was elevated to the Legislative Council. In 2006, he resigned from the LegCo and stood in the general election for the House of Keys in Ramsey on the issue of restoring the 24-hour cover at Ramsey Cottage Hospital. Manchester () is a city in Greater Manchester, England. It had a population of 552,000 in 2021. Noble's Hospital
Noble’s Hospital is a hospital on the Isle of Man. It is one of only two hospitals on the island, and as of 1 April 2021, is run by Manx Care; having previously been run by the Department of Health and Social Care History In 1947 the hospital had 137 beds with an average occupancy of 122 patients. The Cubbon Wing, for chronically sick patients, financed by the estate of the late Thomas Cubbon, was added in 1951. A new Nurses' Home was built in 1953. At the end of 1955, there was a waiting list for admission of 279 patients. Some patients had to be transferred to the White Hoe. The hospital relocated in 2003 from its previous location at Westmoreland Road into a new building constructed on a greenfield site at the outskirts of the main town of Douglas. Anne Craine
Anne Valerie Craine (born 30 April 1954) is a Justice of the Peace from the Isle of Man. Early life Craine went to primary school at Dhoon School before attending Ramsey Grammar School after which she studied at St Godric’s Secretarial College in London. Carine served as a justice of the peace in the Isle of Man from 2000–2003. She was elected to the House of Keys at the 2003 by-election for the Keys constituency of Ramsey. Career In 2005 she succeeded Phil Gawne as Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. In the island's 2006 General Election, Anne Craine topped the poll in Ramsey. She won 1,969 votes and Allan Bell claimed the second seat in the town with 1,768 votes. Despite having been an MHK for only three years, she saw off tough competition from Leonard Singer, who had resigned as an MLC in order to stand for the Keys, but was unsuccessful with 1,621 votes. Tynwald
Tynwald ( gv, Tinvaal), or more formally, the High Court of Tynwald ( gv, Ard-whaiyl Tinvaal) or Tynwald Court, is the legislature of the Isle of Man. It consists of two chambers, known as the branches of Tynwald: the directly elected House of Keys and the indirectly chosen Legislative Council. When the two chambers sit together, they become "Tynwald Court". The chambers sit jointly, on Tynwald Day at St John's for largely ceremonial purposes, and usually once a month in the Legislative Buildings in Douglas. Otherwise, the two chambers sit separately, with the House of Keys originating most legislation, and the Legislative Council acting as a revising chamber.
