Leo Nolan (footballer)
Leo Nolan (9 February 1910 – 11 February 1993) was a former Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL), who was originally from the Wangaratta Football Club, but played with Maryborough in 1931. Educated at the Wangaratta High School, he early developed an liking for football. He originally played with Wangaratta then played in a Railway competition on the Heidelberg line for one season, and showed promise. Then he shifted to the Chiltern & District Football Association and had one season with Wodonga. His railway employment necessitated his being at Mildura for two seasons, and he played there. He then had one Ballarat Football League premiership season at Maryborough in 1931 and was then transferred to Melbourne in 1932. Cleared to Wangaratta in early 1933, he kicked 85 goals in an Ovens and Murray Football League premiership season. The Wangaratta Magpies Football Club, officially known as the Wangaratta Magpies Football & Netball Club, is an Australian rules football club, which first played in the Ovens and Murray Football League in 1893 and is based in Wangaratta, Victoria at the Wangaratta Showgrounds and play on the Norm Minns Oval. Jack Nolan (Australian Footballer)
Jack Nolan (14 May 1902 – 28 October 1971) was an Australian rules footballer who played with North Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Nolan was born in Wangaratta and educated at the Wangaratta High School and went onto be a teacher at the Leongatha High School between 1925 and 1928. Nolan was recruited to North Melbourne from Leongatha in 1926. Nolan was a brother of VFL players, Clarrie and Leo. Nolan along with his brothers, established Nolan Brothers Sports Stores in Albury, Leeton and Wangaratta, which became one of the largest inland sports depots in Australia. The Wodonga Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Bulldogs'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the city of Wodonga, Victoria. History Wodonga's first recorded match was against the Albury Football Club on Saturday, 6 July 1878 in Wodonga. Between 1878 and 1891, Wodonga played many intermittent friendly matches against other local club's and towns, before organised fixtures and competitions were starting to be arranged from the early 1890s. The Maryborough Football & Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Magpies'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the town of Maryborough, Victoria. The club teams currently compete in the Bendigo Football Netball League. History Maryborough were Ballarat Football League premiers on four occasions from 1924 to 1931 but missed both the 1929 and 1930 seasons as they were without a home ground. The council had decided to allocate Princess Park to the Maryborough District Football Association (MDFA). After returning and winning the 1931 premiership, Maryborough applied to join the Bendigo league and were suspended from the Ballarat league as a result. From 1932 to 1940, a separate club called Maryborough United participated in the Bendigo league. The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. The Ovens and Murray Football Netball League (O&MFNL) is an Australian rules football and netball competition containing ten clubs based in north-eastern Victoria, Australia, Victoria, the southern Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia, New South Wales and the Ovens and Murray area. Clarrie Nolan
Clarence Joseph Nolan (24 August 1904 – 18 January 1998) was an Australian rules footballer who played with North Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Nolan, was a Benalla and Shepparton recruit, who joined North Melbourne in 1925 and took part in their inaugural VFL season. He was North Melbourne's leading goal-kicker in 1928 with 24 goals, despite not registering his first goal until round nine. In 1928, Nolan won the ''Sporting Globe'' newspaper competition for the longest place kick, with a kick of 71 yards, 2 foot & 4 inches. In 1929, Nolan joined West Albury as captain-coach and kicked seven goals in their Ovens and Murray Football League grand final win against East Albury Football Club.
