Leinster Senior Hurling Championship
The Leinster GAA Hurling Senior Championship, known simply as the Leinster Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Leinster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition in the province of Leinster, and has been contested every year since the 1888 championship. The final, usually held on the first Sunday in July, serves as the culmination of a series of games played during May and June, and the results determine which team receives the Bob O'Keeffe Cup. The championship was previously played on a straight knockout basis whereby once a team lost they were eliminated from the championship; however, as of 2018, the championship involved a round-robin system. Galway GAA
The Galway County Boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae na Gaillimhe) or Galway GAA are one of the 32 county boards in Ireland; they are responsible for Gaelic games in County Galway, and for the Galway county teams. Galway is one of the few dual counties in Ireland, competing in a similar level in both hurling and football codes. Prior to amalgamation of the hurling and football county boards into one county board, each of the two codes were previously run by their separate boards in Galway, which was unusual for a dual county. Bob Mockler
Robert Mockler (18 April 1886 – 9 May 1966) was an Irish hurler who played as a midfielder for the Tipperary and Dublin senior teams from 1909 until 1924. Mockler made his first appearance for the Tipperary team during the 1908 championship and was a regular member of the starting seventeen for the next few seasons. He subsequently enjoyed a decade long career with Dublin before retiring from the game after the 1924 championship. During that time he won three All-Ireland medals, five Leinster medals and one Munster medal. Mockler captained Dublin to the All-Ireland title in 1920. Mockler began his club career with Horse and Jockey before later winning six county championship medals with Faughs in Dublin. John Ryan (23 March 1890 – 1 April 1943) was an Irish hurler and physician, most notable for captaining the winning Dublin team that won the 1917 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. Jack Finlay
John Finlay (10 June 1889 – 30 September 1942) was an Irish athlete who played hurling for Laois in the 1910s and in later life was a politician. Finlay was born in Ballycuddy, County Laois in 1889. He had a love of hurling from a young age and soon joined his local club Ballygeehan. In 1913 Finlay won a Laois Junior Hurling Championship with the club. They moved to senior level the following year and proceeded to win five county championships in-a-row with Finlay as captain. After winning the county title in 1914 the club had a major say in the selection of the inter-county team for the following year. Finlay was chosen as captain and was joined by his brother Tom Finlay. That year Laois defeated Offaly, Kilkenny and Dublin to win the Leinster Championship. Jack Carroll (hurler)
Jack Carroll (1921–1998) is an Irish hurler who played as a goalkeeper for the Offaly senior hurling team. Carroll made his first appearance for the team during the 1943 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement after the 1953 championship. During that time he enjoyed little success as Offaly were regarded as one of the minnows of provincial hurling. At club level Carroll was a five-time county club championship medalist with Coolderry. Sim Walton
Simon F. "Sim" Walton (4 October 1880 – 27 December 1966) was an Irish hurler who played as a full-forward at senior level for the Kilkenny county team. Born in Tullaroan, County Kilkenny, Walton first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-two when made his senior debut in the delayed 1900 championship. Walton went on to play a key part for Kilkenny during the team's breakthrough and first golden age, and won seven All-Ireland medals and nine Leinster medals. An All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion, Walton also captained the team to All-Ireland victory in 1911 and 1912. At club level Walton won seven championship medals with Tullaroan. Walton was regarded as one of the top scorers of his generation and, in spite of an absence of records, it is believed he scored upwards of 30 goals. Dick Doyle (Wexford Hurler)
Richard Doyle (28 April 1878 – 6 July 1946) was an Irish people, Irish hurling, hurler. His All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, championship career with the Wexford GAA, Wexford team spanned the first decade of the 20th century. Doyle was born in Castlebridge, County Wexford to the former Hannagh Lacy and Patrick Doyle. After a brief education he spent his working life as a farmer. Doyle first played competitive hurling with the Castlebridge GAA, Castlebridge club. Throughout his club career he won two Wexford Senior Hurling Championship, county senior championship medals. After impressing on the club scene, Doyle was chosen as captain of the Wexford team in 1909. He retained the captaincy the following year and was one of the most deadly forwards on the team. Richard (Dick) "Drug" Walsh (30 December 1877 – 28 July 1958) was an Irish people, Irish Hurling, hurler who played as a centre-forward at senior level for the Kilkenny county hurling team, Kilkenny county team. Born in Mooncoin, County Kilkenny, Walsh first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-four when he first linked up with the Kilkenny senior team. He made his senior debut during the 1904 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, 1904 championship. Walsh immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen, and won seven All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, All-Ireland medals and seven Leinster Senior Hurling Championship, Leinster medals.
