Dick Doyle (Wexford Hurler)
Richard Doyle (28 April 1878 – 6 July 1946) was an Irish people, Irish hurling, hurler. His All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, championship career with the Wexford GAA, Wexford team spanned the first decade of the 20th century. Doyle was born in Castlebridge, County Wexford to the former Hannagh Lacy and Patrick Doyle. After a brief education he spent his working life as a farmer. Doyle first played competitive hurling with the Castlebridge GAA, Castlebridge club. Throughout his club career he won two Wexford Senior Hurling Championship, county senior championship medals. After impressing on the club scene, Doyle was chosen as captain of the Wexford team in 1909. He retained the captaincy the following year and was one of the most deadly forwards on the team. Castlebridge () is a small town on the R741 regional road in County Wexford, Ireland, north of Wexford Town. It is located near the River Slaney and just north of Wexford Harbour. Castlebridge is a rapidly expanding suburb of Wexford Town; its population has almost tripled in 20 years, increasing from 783 in 1996 to a population of 1,840 in 2016. History The namesake castle, that originally stood in the town, was dismantled to build buildings such as the Church of Ireland church, which is one of the oldest buildings in Castlebridge. The river that flows through Castlebridge is, contrary to popular belief, actually a canal that replaced the original river. It was dug out by hand to allow sailing cots that loaded up in the various docks of Castlebridge to get to Wexford Town more quickly. Dick Walsh
Richard (Dick) "Drug" Walsh (30 December 1877 – 28 July 1958) was an Irish hurler who played as a centre-forward at senior level for the Kilkenny county team. Born in Mooncoin, County Kilkenny, Walsh first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-four when he first linked up with the Kilkenny senior team. He made his senior debut during the 1904 championship. Walsh immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen, and won seven All-Ireland medals and seven Leinster medals. His idol was ‘Big Joe’ Scullion with the diabetes and the bad leg from the North. It’s said he took the nickname ‘Drug’ because Big Joe took a lot of ibuprofen for the bad leg. He captained the team to the All-Ireland titles in 1907, 1909 and 1913. As a member of the Leinster inter-provincial team Walsh captained the team to the Railway Shield. Sim Walton
Simon F. "Sim" Walton (4 October 1880 – 27 December 1966) was an Irish hurler who played as a full-forward at senior level for the Kilkenny county team. Born in Tullaroan, County Kilkenny, Walton first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-two when made his senior debut in the delayed 1900 championship. Walton went on to play a key part for Kilkenny during the team's breakthrough and first golden age, and won seven All-Ireland medals and nine Leinster medals. An All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion, Walton also captained the team to All-Ireland victory in 1911 and 1912. At club level Walton won seven championship medals with Tullaroan. Walton was regarded as one of the top scorers of his generation and, in spite of an absence of records, it is believed he scored upwards of 30 goals. The Wexford County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Luthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae Loch Garman) or Wexford GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Wexford.
