Lawrence Batley Seniors
The Lawrence Batley Seniors was a senior (over 50s) men's professional golf tournament on the European Senior Tour. It was played from 1992 to 2002 in the Huddersfield area of West Yorkshire, England. From 1995 the tournament was held at Huddersfield Golf Club, north of Huddersfield, while in 1994 it was held at Woodsome Hall Golf Club, south-west of Huddersfield, and in 1992 and 1993 at both venues. The tournament was sponsored by Lawrence Batley who had earlier supported a European Tour event, the Lawrence Batley International, from 1981 to 1987. Batley died in August 2002, soon after the final tournament. Huddersfield
Huddersfield is a market town in the Kirklees district in West Yorkshire, England. It is the administrative centre and largest settlement in the Kirklees district. The town is in the foothills of the Pennines. The River Holme's confluence into the similar-sized Colne to the south of the town centre which then flows into the Calder in the north eastern outskirts of the town. Malcolm Gregson
Malcolm Edward Gregson (born 15 August 1943) is an English professional golfer. After a promising start to his career as an amateur and assistant professional, he had one exceptional year, 1967, when he won the Harry Vardon Trophy and played in the Ryder Cup, but had only limited success afterwards. After reaching 50 he played on the European Senior Tour, winning five times. Early life and amateur career Gregson was born in Leicester and educated at Millfield School in Somerset from 1957 to 1960. In 1957 he reached the last-16 of the Boys Amateur Championship, a week after his 14th birthday. In 1959 he represented England boys in their annual match against Scotland, played just before the Boys Championship. Renato Campagnoli (born 19 November 1943) is an Italian professional golfer. He represented Italy three times in the World Cup. Bobby Verwey
Frank Robert Verwey (born 21 January 1941) is a South African professional golfer. Verwey was born in Johannesburg and is the son of former South African PGA champion Jock Verwey. He is also the brother-in-law of South African golf legend Gary Player, who was married to his sister, Vivienne, deceased 2021. Verwey won the 1962 German Open and the 1965 Almaden Open Invitational on the PGA Tour. He was a member of the European Tour from 1978 to 1980. He won several professional tournaments in his home country and represented South Africa in the World Cup in 1978 and 1980. Verwey was 50 years, 5 months and 23 days old when he won the Senior British Open Championship becoming the youngest player to ever win that event. He was a regular on the European Seniors Tour for the first few years after its establishment in 1992, and finished in the top ten on the Order of Merit four times. Antonio Garrido (golfer)
Antonio Garrido (born 2 February 1944) is a Spanish professional golfer. He won five times on the European Tour and twice on the European Senior Tour. He played in the 1979 Ryder Cup, the first Ryder Cup in which Continental European golfers were eligible to play. Professional career Garrido played on the European Tour from its first official season in 1972 and won five tournaments between 1972 and 1986. He is notable for winning the first ever official European Tour event, the 1972 Spanish Open. His best year was 1977 when he won the Madrid Open and the Benson & Hedges International Open and finished third on the Order of Merit. That same season he teamed up with Seve Ballesteros to win the World Cup of Golf for Spain, finishing three strokes ahead of the Philippines. Edward Polland (born 10 June 1947) is a Northern Ireland, Northern Irish professional golfer. Polland was born in Newcastle, County Down, Newcastle, County Down. He turned professional in 1968 and won four times on the European Tour between 1973 and 1980. He played in the Ryder Cup in 1973.
