Tommy Horton
Thomas Alfred Horton, (16 June 1941 – 7 December 2017) was an English professional golfer. He finished in the top ten of the Open Championship four times, won a number of important tournaments both before and after the founding of the European Tour in 1972 and played in the Ryder Cup in 1975 and 1977. He reached 50 just before the founding of the European Seniors Tour and won 23 times on the tour between 1992 and 2000. Early life Horton was born in St Helens, Merseyside; he moved to Jersey in 1945 and was brought up and educated on the island. Professional career Horton was an assistant at Ham Manor Golf Club near Worthing, Sussex from 1959, later becoming the professional there. In 1974 he moved to Royal Jersey Golf Club. He celebrated 25 years there as professional before his retirement in 1999. Jersey Seniors Open
The Acorn Jersey Open was a men's senior (over 50) professional golf tournament on the European Senior Tour. It was held, under a number of different titles, from 1996 to 2010, before being played in 2015 and 2016 as the Acorn Jersey Open. It has always been played at La Moye Golf Club in Jersey. It indirectly replaced the Jersey Open, an event on the main European Tour which was staged at the same venue from 1978 to 1995. Schroder Senior Masters
The Wentworth Senior Masters was a men's professional golf tournament on the European Seniors Tour from 1997 to 2007. The first tournament was won by multi-major winner Gary Player. It was staged at the Wentworth Club beyond the western fringe of London, which has the headquarters of the PGA European Tour European Seniors Tour Championship, as the Seniors Tour's fixed location tournament. It was played on the Edinburgh Course. The two European Tour tournaments at the club (the corporate-sponsored PGA Championship and the World Play Championship) were played over the West Course. Bobby Verwey
Frank Robert Verwey (born 21 January 1941) is a South African professional golfer. Verwey was born in Johannesburg and is the son of former South African PGA champion Jock Verwey. He is also the brother-in-law of South African golf legend Gary Player, who was married to his sister, Vivienne, deceased 2021. Verwey won the 1962 German Open and the 1965 Almaden Open Invitational on the PGA Tour. He was a member of the European Tour from 1978 to 1980. He won several professional tournaments in his home country and represented South Africa in the World Cup in 1978 and 1980. Verwey was 50 years, 5 months and 23 days old when he won the Senior British Open Championship becoming the youngest player to ever win that event. He was a regular on the European Seniors Tour for the first few years after its establishment in 1992, and finished in the top ten on the Order of Merit four times. Lawrence Batley Seniors
The Lawrence Batley Seniors was a senior (over 50s) men's professional golf tournament on the European Senior Tour. It was played from 1992 to 2002 in the Huddersfield area of West Yorkshire, England. From 1995 the tournament was held at Huddersfield Golf Club, north of Huddersfield, while in 1994 it was held at Woodsome Hall Golf Club, south-west of Huddersfield, and in 1992 and 1993 at both venues. The tournament was sponsored by Lawrence Batley who had earlier supported a European Tour event, the Lawrence Batley International, from 1981 to 1987. Batley died in August 2002, soon after the final tournament. Maurice Bembridge
Maurice Bembridge (born 21 February 1945) is an English golfer. He won the 1969 News of the World Match Play, the 1971 Dunlop Masters and won six times on the European Tour from its formation in 1972. He also won tournaments around the world, including the Kenya Open three times. He played in the Ryder Cup four successive times from 1969 to 1975 and represented England twice in the World Cup. At the 1974 Masters Tournament, Bembridge tied the course record with a 64 in the final round, lifting him into a tie for 9th place. Professional career Bembridge turned professional at an early age in 1960 and was an assistant at Worksop Golf Club.
