Laurie Cumming
Laurence Stanley Slater Cumming (10 April 1905 – 19 November 1980) was a professional footballer and journalist, born in Derry, Ireland. Cumming played for Alloa Athletic, Huddersfield Town, Oldham Athletic, Southampton, Queen of the South, St Mirren and Hamilton Academical. All of his international appearances were at inside-left, though at club level he was capable of switching between the number eight and ten shirts. 5 foot 11 and 12 stone 4, Laurie Cumming's sand dancing, clever ball control and finishing ability made him a great attraction wherever he played. To quote one newspaper report: "His pirouetting, Charlie Chaplin swagger and complete control of the ball.... left us longing to see ten of his kind." Derry
Derry, officially Londonderry (), is the second-largest city in Northern Ireland and the fifth-largest city on the island of Ireland. Johnny Dent
John George Dent (born 31 January 1903) was an English professional footballer who played for Durham City, Huddersfield Town and Nottingham Forest. Nottingham Forest Dent made his league debut for Nottingham Forest on 3 October 1929 at the City Ground in a 1–1 draw with Bradford Park Avenue. He is one of only 6 players to score over 100 goals for Nottingham Forest, netting his first on 5 October 1929 away to Tottenham Hotspur. In March 1935 he scored two successive hat-tricks against Oldham Athletic and Burnley. Both matches were 5-0 victories for Forest. He scored five hat-tricks for Forest in total. Joe Tulip
Joe Tulip (died 1979) was an English footballer best known for his time at Dumfries club Queen of the South. Career Tulip was one of the first Englishmen to play in the Scottish League. His discovery was quite unique as he was spied by a Dumfries policeman on holiday in the north of England who then recommended him to the Queens directors. He was snapped up and made his debut on 11 November 1933 against Rangers at Palmerston. Willie Ferguson
William Copeland Ferguson (13 February 1901 – 31 August 1960) was a Scottish footballer and manager best known for his time at Chelsea and Dumfries side Queen of the South. His position was usually as a left winger. Early years Ferguson was born in Muirkirk, Ayrshire to Daniel Ferguson, a coal miner, and Barbara, née Brown. He was still a child when his family moved to Kirkconnel, where he started in football with local junior side Kello Rovers. Queen of the South (1st spell) Willie Ferguson first joined fledgling Queen of the South in nearby Dumfries during season 1921–22, their third season after formation. Ferguson was the fourth of the players at the club in its first three seasons who would go on build successful careers in England's top division. Willie Culbert was a former Scottish footballer best known with Dumfries club Queen of the South. Queen of the South Willie Culbert was a 1932 Queen of the South signing from Clyde. Culbert was one of the mainstays of the side that were promoted to the division for the first time when they ended their 1932-33 campaign with a victory over divisional champions Hibs. Willie Savage
William Savage (1888–1961) was a Scottish footballer who played as a full back for Queen of the South from 1932 to 1946. Early days Savage was a native of Burnbank, Lanarkshire, who began his football as an inside forward at the local St Cuthbert School and represented Lanarkshire elementary schools against Glasgow. On leaving school he played in the junior league as centre forward for his local club Burnbank. Three seasons later he went to St Cuthbert C.Y.M.S. This was a one-season stay before returning to Burnbank for a further season. The next season, he was with Falkirk side Shieldhill Thistle. He played for the Hamilton 'A' team before rejoining the junior league with Motherwell Juniors. George McLachlan
George Hardie McLachlan (21 September 1901 – September 1964) was a Scottish professional footballer and manager. He played for a number of amateur sides as a youth but began his professional career with Clyde in the Scottish Football League. He signed for Football League First Division side Cardiff City in 1925 for a fee of £2,000. He made more than 150 appearances for the side over four seasons in all competitions and was part of the team that won the 1927 FA Cup Final. In 1929, he was sold to Manchester United where he was later appointed club captain. He later played for Chester in 1933 before being appointed manager of French side Le Havre in 1934, where he also briefly played. He returned to Scotland in 1935, becoming manager of Queen of the South. He spent two seasons in charge of the side and also led the team on a 1936 overseas tour of France. Dumfries
Dumfries ( ; sco, Dumfries; from gd, Dùn Phris ) is a market town and former royal burgh within the Dumfries and Galloway council area of Scotland. It is located near the mouth of the River Nith into the Solway Firth about by road from the Anglo-Scottish border and just away from Cumbria by air. Dumfries is the county town of the historic county of Dumfriesshire. Before becoming King of Scots, Robert the Bruce killed his rival the Red Comyn at Greyfriars Kirk in the town on 10 February 1306.
