Lauri Marjamäki
Lauri Marjamäki (born May 29, 1977) is a Finnish ice hockey Coach (ice hockey), coach who currently serves as head coach of Oulun Kärpät of the Liiga, a position he has held since 2022. He previously served as head coach of the Finland men's national ice hockey team, Finnish national ice hockey team, and of the Espoo Blues of the Liiga and Jokerit of the KHL. Career Marjamäki is notable for becoming a pro coach at a relatively young age, having only played a couple of seasons' worth of junior hockey semi-professionally before turning to coaching. After working the youth ranks of Finnish clubs Ilves and Espoo Blues, he joined the coaching staff of the Blues’ men's squad as an assistant in 2007. In 2011, he was promoted to the head coaching job and remained in that position until February 2013. Finland Men's National Ice Hockey Team
The Finnish men's national ice hockey team, nickname ''Leijonat / Lejonen'' ("The Lions" in Finnish and Swedish), as it is called in Finland, is governed by the Finnish Ice Hockey Association. Finland is one of the most successful national ice hockey teams in the world and a member of the so-called " Big Six", the unofficial group of the six strongest men's ice hockey nations, along with Canada, the United States, the Czech Republic, Russia, and Sweden. Finland won the world championship in 2022, their fourth after 1995, 2011 and 2019. A duo of silver medals (1988, 2006) remained the country's best Olympic results until winning gold in 2022. At the Canada/World Cup, their best achievement is also a silver medal which they won in 2004. The Finns achieved a breakthrough in 2022, winning their first ever Olympic gold after defeating ROC. 2021–2022 Russo-Ukrainian Crisis
In March and April 2021, Russian president Vladimir Putin ordered the Russian military to begin massing thousands of personnel and equipment near its border with Ukraine and in Crimea, representing the largest mobilization since the annexation of Crimea in 2014. This precipitated an international crisis due to concerns over a potential invasion. Satellite imagery showed movements of armour, missiles, and heavy weaponry. The troops were partially withdrawn by June 2021, but the crisis was renewed in October and November 2021, when over 100,000 Russian troops were massed around Ukraine on three sides by December. Despite the Russian military build-ups, Russian officials from November 2021 to 20 February 2022 repeatedly denied that Russia had plans to invade Ukraine. 2017–18 Euro Hockey Tour
The 2017–18 Euro Hockey Tour was the 22nd season of Euro Hockey Tour. It started in November 2017 and lasted until April 2018. It consisted of Karjala Tournament, Channel One Cup, Carlson Hockey Games and Sweden Hockey Games. Final standings Karjala Tournament The Karjala Cup was played between 8–12 November 2017. Most of the matches were played in Helsinki, Finland, two matches were held in Switzerland and Sweden. The tournament was won by Finland. Channel One Cup The 2017 Channel One Cup was played between 13 and 17 December 2017. The Czech Republic, Finland, Sweden and Russia with the new teams of Canada and South Korea were involved in the tournament. Eight matches were played in Moscow, Russia, one match was held in Prague, Czech Republic. The tournament was won by Russia.
