Lasse Mårtenson
Lars Anders Fredrik "Lasse" Mårtenson (24 September 1934 – 14 May 2016) was a Finnish singer, composer, actor, and theater conductor. Mårtenson was born in Helsinki. He performed at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1964 with the song " Laiskotellen" ("Idling"). He placed 7th with 9 points. He is best known in his home country as the composer of "Maija from the Storm Skerries", a lyrical tune arranged primarily for piano. His hits include the Finnish version of the song "Jackson" in duet with Carola Standertskjöld, which was included in the list of the songs played in the 2003 Men's World Ice Hockey Championships The 2003 Men's Ice Hockey World Championships was the 67th such event sanctioned by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). The Eurovision Song Contest 1964 was the 9th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Copenhagen, Denmark, following the country's victory at the with the song "Dansevise" by Grethe & Jørgen Ingmann. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Danmarks Radio (DR), the contest was held at Tivolis Koncertsal on 21 March 1964, and was hosted by Danish TV presenter Lotte Wæver. Aurinko Laskee Länteen
Finland was represented by Viktor Klimenko, with the song "Aurinko laskee länteen", at the 1965 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 20 March in Naples. Before Eurovision The Finnish national selection composed of a semi final and a final. Semi final Ten songs were chosen to the national semi final. Those songs were played on radio in late January and six finalists were chosen by postcard voting. National final The Finnish national final took place on February 13 at the YLE TV Studios in Helsinki. The show was hosted by Antti Einiö and Marion Rung. There were two juries, regional juries and a Nordic jury. Should both juries have the same favourite, it would be declared the winner. However, the favorite song of regional juries was "Iltaisin" performed by Marjatta Leppänen and of Nordic jury was "Aurinko laskee länteen" by Viktor Klimenko. Viktor Klimenko (singer)
Viktor Savvich Klimenko (born 24 November 1942) is a singer who made himself known as the "Singing Cossack". Biography Klimenko was born in Karelia, to a Russian Kuban Cossack father, Savva Klimenko, and a Russian mother, Olga Glotova. A few years after his birth, his family moved to Finland. There, he became a musician and appeared in several films, mostly appearing as himself. The Eurovision Song Contest 1965 was his first appearance outside of Finland; his song didn't earn any points in the competition. In 1970, Klimenko released the album ''Stenka Rasin'' across Europe. The album, containing Russian songs, went gold in the Finnish market—the first record to do so in Finland. Later, it was certified platinum. This success was followed by a decade of concerts around the world. Klimeno had nine more gold records and one more platinum record.
