Las Vegas Silver Bandits
The Las Vegas Silver Bandits were a team in the International Basketball League (IBL). They played at the Thomas and Mack Center in Paradise, Nevada in 1999. The team president was Michael A. Olsen. The V.P. of Basketball Operations was Cindy Hays. Burke Reeder served as Director of Sales. Tony Desiere who now does sports radio in the Denver Colorado market, was the sports information director. Tim Neverett who is the new voice of the Pittsburgh Pirates was the Silverbandits play by play announcer. Jackie Robinson purchased the Silver Bandits in the spring of 2000. International Basketball League (1999–2001)
The International Basketball League (IBL) was a short-lived professional men's basketball league in the United States. The IBL was headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland. The league started in 1999 and ended in 2001. History The International Basketball League was founded in early 1999 and made plans to begin play in fall of that year. The first season did not quite meet expectations with attendance, but the league was still largely functional, with the Saint Louis Swarm winning the first championship. The second season was significantly rougher, with the league losing the Baltimore and San Diego franchises and merging with teams from the Continental Basketball Association after that league folded early in 2000. The Thomas & Mack Center is a multi-purpose arena located on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in Paradise, Nevada. It is home of the UNLV Runnin' Rebels basketball team of the Mountain West Conference. History The facility was first opened in the summer of 1983. The gala grand opening was held on December 16, 1983, featuring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Diana Ross. The facility hosts numerous events, such as concerts, music festivals, conventions and boxing cards. For ring events, the capacity is 19,522; for basketball, the capacity is 18,000. Jackie Robinson (born May 20, 1955) is an American former professional basketball player. Career A 6'6" forward from UNLV, Robinson played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1979 to 1981 as a member of the Seattle SuperSonics, Detroit Pistons, and Chicago Bulls. He averaged 3.8 points per game in his NBA career and won an NBA Championship with Seattle in 1979. Retirement Afterward, Robinson played five years in Europe, and upon retirement held executive positions in several Las Vegas companies that worked in retail, real estate, construction, credit, and the food and beverage industries. The Seattle SuperSonics (commonly known as the Seattle Sonics) were an American professional basketball team based in Seattle. The NBA G League, or simply the G League, is the National Basketball Association's (NBA) official List of developmental and minor sports leagues, minor league basketball organization. The league was known as the National Basketball Development League (NBDL) from 2001 to 2005, and the NBA Development League (NBA D-League) from 2005 until 2017. In 2010 the Albany Legends became the first team in the Northeastern United States to join.
