Beyond The Gates (Possessed Album)
''Beyond the Gates'' is the second album by death metal band Possessed. Taking a different direction from their debut, '' Seven Churches'', ''Beyond the Gates'' has a more technical feeling and, due to poor production, a muddy sound. Reception was mixed, with some critics and fans being very disappointed by the album for the sound and production, while others were satisfied with the new direction of the band. Over the years, fans have slowly appreciated ''Beyond the Gates'' and have even considered it being an "underrated masterpiece" and "overlooked classic". ''Beyond the Gates'' became a sign of Possessed's decline, as they only released the EP ''The Eyes of Horror'' before they officially disbanded the following year. This became the band’s last full length album, up until the release of their third studio album ''Revelations of Oblivion'', 33 years later. The vinyl release of the album featured an enhanced gatefold-style format: the "gates" of the front cover opened o ...

Seven Churches (album)
''Seven Churches'' is the debut album by American death metal band Possessed. The title of the album refers to the Seven Churches of Asia mentioned in the Book of Revelation. "The Exorcist" begins with producer Randy Burns' version of Mike Oldfield's ''Tubular Bells'', arranged and performed as it was in the 1973 horror film of the same name. ''Seven Churches'' is widely regarded as the first death metal album to exist, and About.com named it one of the ten essential albums of the genre. Jeff Becerra was only 16 when the album was recorded. Background According to David Konow's ''Bang Your Head: The Rise and Fall of Heavy Metal'', the album was recorded during the Spring Break of 1985 when Pinole Valley High School juniors Jeff Becerra and Larry LaLonde had ample time for studio production. Up until the release of the album, the band had practiced at manager Debbie Abono's house in Pinole, but had formed in the El Sobrante/ San Pablo area, which was the location of Mike T ...

Speed Metal
Speed metal is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music that originated in the late 1970s from new wave of British heavy metal (NWOBHM) roots.K. Kahn-Harris, ''Extreme Metal: Music and Culture on the Edge'' (Berg Publishers, 2007), , p. 31. It is described by AllMusic as "extremely fast, abrasive, and technically demanding" music. It is usually considered less abrasive and more melodic than thrash metal, showing less influence from hardcore punk. However, speed metal is usually faster and more aggressive than traditional heavy metal, also showing more inclination to virtuoso soloing and featuring short instrumental passages between couplets. Speed metal songs frequently make use of highly expressive vocals, but are usually less likely to employ "harsh" vocals than thrash metal songs. Origins New wave of British heavy metal One of the key influences on the development of speed metal was the new wave of British heavy metal, or NWOBHM. This was a heavy metal movement that star ...

Slayer's final lineup comprised Araya, King, drummer Paul Bostaph (who replaced Lombardo in 1992 and again in 2013) and guitarist Gary Holt (who replaced Hanneman in 2011). Drummer Jon Dette was also a member of the band. In the original lineup, King, Hanneman and Araya contributed to the band's lyrics, and all of the band's music was written by King and Hanneman. The band's lyrics and album art, which cover topics such as serial killers, torture, genocide, organized crime, secret societies, occultism, terrorism, religion or antireligion, fascism, racism and war, have generated album bans, delays, lawsuits and criticism from religious ...
