Larry D. Alexander
Larry Dell Alexander (born May 30, 1953) is an American artist, Christian author and Catechist from Dermott, Arkansas in Chicot County. Alexander is best known for his creations of elaborate colorful, and black & white "pen and ink" drawings in his "crosshatching", or "hatching" technique, and his acrylic paintings. His works not only depict the African-American experience but also the experiences of people throughout American history itself. He also received notoriety and a personal presidential thanks for his personal rendition of a " Clinton Family Portrait" oil painting which he gave to U.S. President Bill Clinton in 1995. It is now a part of the collection at the Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock, Arkansas. He is also known for the Arkansas Schools Tours that he did between 1996 and 2006. Dermott, Arkansas
Dermott is a city in Chicot County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 2,316 at the 2010 census. Dermott was incorporated in 1890. Dermott was home to the Dermott Crawfish Festival. Geography Dermott is located in the northwest corner of Chicot County at (33.528712, -91.437657). Bayou Bartholomew, a tributary of the Ouachita River, touches the southwest corner of the city. U.S. Route 165 passes southeast of the city center, leading north to McGehee and south to Montrose. Arkansas Highway 35 passes through the center of Dermott and leads northwest to Monticello. Dermott High School is an accredited public high school located in the community of Dermott, Arkansas, United States. It is the only high school administered by the Dermott School District and is one of two public high schools based in Chicot County, Arkansas. The school has just over 200 students, in grades 7 through 12. History In summer 1885, Dermott established its first public white school, which was used in the winter as a black school. After its first year, various buildings were used until 1908 when the current school system was established including a new elementary school. The original 1908 brick building was used until 1976.
