Langadia, Arcadia
Lagadia ( el, Λαγκάδια) is a mountain village and a former municipality in Arcadia, Peloponnese, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Gortynia, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 79.475 km2. The seat of the municipality was the village Lagadia. It is considered a traditional settlement and is situated on a mountain slope, at about 1000 m elevation. It is 5 km east of Lefkochori, 10 km north of Dimitsana and 36 km northwest of Tripoli. The Greek National Road 74 ( Pyrgos - Olympia - Tripoli) passes through the village. The village has a school, a church, a post office, and a square. Kanellos Deligiannis and his brother Dimitrakis Deligiannis, two of the many heroes of the Greek War of Independence against the Turks in 1821, were born here. Kanellos Deligiannis
Kanellos Deligiannis ( el, Κανέλλος Δεληγιάννης; 1780–1862) was a Greek magnate from the Morea and the son of Ioannis Deligiannis. He was one of the main organizers of the Greek War of Independence and a politician in the independent Kingdom of Greece. Biography He was born in Langadia, Gortynia, and was a son of one of the most important magnates in the Peloponnese (Morea), Ioannis Deligiannis. Due to the prominence of his family in the area, he played an important role in the Greek Revolution. He fought at Missolonghi, Peta, Tripolitsa, and elsewhere. During the Greek civil wars of 1824–1825, he joined with many chiefs of the Peloponnese and Hydra and convinced Theodoros Kolokotronis to join them by offering his daughter in marriage to one of Kolokotronis' sons. Iraia
Iraia ( el, Ηραία) is a former municipality in Arcadia, Peloponnese, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it became a municipal unit of the municipality of Gortynia. The municipal unit has an area of 144.002 km2. It consists of 27 villages. Population 1,552 (2011). The seat of the municipality was in Paloumpa. The municipality is named after the ancient Arcadian city of Heraia. The region was known in recent times for the construction workers (''mastori'') who came from the villages of Servos and Lyssarea. Vytina
Vytina ( el, Βυτίνα, ''Vytína'') is a mountain village and a former municipality in Arcadia, Peloponnese, Greece. It is considered a traditional settlement. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Gortynia, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 139.309 km2. The seat of the municipality was the village Vytina. The village is located at the foot of the mountain range Mainalo. The area produces marble, a variation called the Black of Vytina. Dimitrakis Deligiannis
Dimitrakis Deligiannis ( el, Δημητράκης Δεληγιάννης; 1783 – 1848) was a fighter of the Greek War of Independence of 1821 from Arcadia, Greece. Biography Dimitrakis Deligiannis was born in 1783 in Lagadia in Arcadia in the Peloponnese, and was the son of the important provost Ioannis Deligiannis who was killed before the revolution by the Ottoman authorities with the sultan's firman. He was a member of Filiki Eteria and at the beginning of the Greek revolution, he actively participated along with the rest of his brothers. He took part in the general massacre of the Ottoman inhabitants of Lagadia who had been disarmed a long time earlier by the forces of his brother Kanellos and in the expedition that led to the downfall of the strong Ottoman stronghold of Lalas.
