Lakeshore School District (Berrien)
The Lakeshore School District in Southwestern lower Michigan serves the communities of Stevensville and Baroda in Berrien County. History The district was formed by the merging of the two high school systems of Baroda, Michigan and Stevensville, Michigan in 1957. A fourth elementary school, Stevensville Elementary School occupying two buildings (one formerly Stevensville High School), was closed in 1979 and demolished later. A fifth elementary school, Baroda Elementary School (formerly Baroda High School), was closed in 1981 and demolished in 2006. Schools Lakeshore has three primary schools and two secondary schools. Stevensville, Michigan
Stevensville is a village in Berrien County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The village lies within Lincoln Township. The population was 1,147 at the 2020 census. History The village was platted in the 1840s by Thomas Stevens, who was a prominent banker from Niles, Michigan, and owned a large tract of land in the area. A.D. Brown made a later addition, and in 1893 the village was incorporated. In 1906, Stevensville's population was 250. Baroda, Michigan
Baroda is a village in Berrien County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 873 at the 2010 census. The village is within Baroda Township. The first white settlers started to arrive in the 1830s and began clearing the land, draining the swamps, and building homes and farms. Michael Houser is considered the founder of Baroda, bargaining with the Indiana and Lake Michigan Railway Company to establish a station on his land. Houser platted the village ca. 1890. Houser named the community after Baroda in Gujarat, India. The village incorporated in 1907. The Baroda Post Office opened on January 1, 1891. Berrien County is a county on the south line of Michigan, at the southwestern corner of the state. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 154,316. The county seat is St. Joseph. Berrien County is included in the Niles-Benton Harbor, MI Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the South Bend- Elkhart- Mishawaka, IN-MI Combined Statistical Area.
