Lake Piva
Lake Piva ( cg, Пивско језеро, Pivsko јezero) is a reservoir in Montenegro. It is located in the northwest part of the country, in Plužine Municipality. The surface of the lake is 12.5 km², the length is 45 km, and the maximum depth is 188 m. The elevation is 675 m above sea level. The artificial lake is the result of the construction of Mratinje Dam on the Piva river. On the bottom of the lake there is the old town Plužine; Piva Monastery was also there, but it has been relocated. The new location of the monastery is 8 km from Plužine, and 3.5 km away from the original location of the monastery. The relocation has started in 1969 and finished in 1982. Plužine Municipality
Plužine Municipality ( Montenegrin and Serbian: Opština Plužine / Општина Плужине) is one of the municipalities in northwestern region of Montenegro. The administrative center is Town of Plužine. According to the 2011 census, it has a population of 3,235. Geography and location The municipality of Pluzine is the seventh largest municipality in Montenegro, but also the municipality with the lowest population density, after Šavnik Municipality. The municipality is located in the northwest of Montenegro, being part of Piva region, named after Piva river. The region is close to the border crossing with Bosnia and Herzegovina (Herzegovina region) for the towns of Gacko and Foča. Piva (river)
The Piva (Serbian Cyrillic: Пива, ) is the river in Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The river runs through Montenegro for the most of its course length, and in its last three kilometres represents the border between the two countries. Course The Piva emerges from the ''Sinjac'' wellspring (Cyrillic: ''Сињац''; etymologically ''sinjac'' is derivative of ''sinji''/''sinje''/''sinja'', rooted in proto-slavic, and means having a blue tinge, bluish color, gray, gray-blue, so ''Sinjac'' could be translated in modern sh, as Plavac), which is also simply called ''Wellspring of Piva'' (; Cyrillic: ''Врело Пиве''), situated near the Piva Monastery underneath of Golija mountain. Plužine (Montenegrin Cyrillic: Плужине, ) is a town in northwestern Montenegro. In 2011 it has a population of 1,341. Mratinje Dam
The Mratinje Dam ( cnr, Брана Мратиње, Brana Mratinje) is a concrete arch dam in the canyon of the Piva River in Montenegro. The dam was completed in 1975 with designs by Energoprojekt. Its construction resulted in the flooding of the Piva canyon and the creation of Lake Piva, which, with its 12.5 km², is the second largest lake in Montenegro. Piva Monastery
The Piva Monastery ( sr, Манастир Пивски, Manastir Pivski), also known as the Church of Sv. Bogorodica or the Church of the Assumption of the Holy Mother of God, is located in Piva, Montenegro near the source of the Piva River in northern Montenegro. Built between 1573 and 1586, it was rebuilt in another location in 1982. It is the largest Serbian Orthodox church constructed during the Ottoman occupation in the 16th and 17th centuries. Noted for its frescoes, the monastery's treasures also include ritual objects, rare liturgical books, art, objects of precious metals and a psalm from the Crnojevići printing press (1493–96), which was the first in the Balkans.
