La Sagra's Flycatcher
La Sagra's flycatcher (''Myiarchus sagrae'') is a passerine bird in the tyrant flycatcher family. It breeds on Cuba, the Bahamas and Grand Cayman in the West Indies. It is normally a year-round resident, but has been known as an occasional vagrant to southern Florida. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, subtropical or tropical mangrove forests, subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, and heavily degraded former forest. The nest is built in a tree cavity or similar natural or man-made hole, and the normal clutch is two to four eggs. Adult La Sagra's flycatchers are 19–22 cm long and weigh 17-21 g. The upperparts are olive brown, with a darker head and short crest. The breast is grey and the belly is a dull white. The brown tail feathers and wings have rufous outer webs, and there are two dull wing bars. The sexes are similar. Juan Cristóbal Gundlach (17 July 1810 in Marburg – 14 March 1896 in Havana), born Johannes Christoph Gundlach was a Cuban naturalist and taxonomist. Biography Gundlach graduated from Marburg University, where his father was professor of physics, as Doctor of Philosophy in 1837. In 1839, he left Europe to make collections on the Caribbean island of Cuba, where he lived ever since. Myiarchus
''Myiarchus'' is a genus of tyrant flycatchers. Most species are fairly similar looking and are easier to separate by voice than plumage. ''Myiarchus'' flycatchers are fairly large tyrant-flycatchers at 16–23 cm (6.3–9 in) long. They are all partially crested with a brown to gray back and head, a rufous to blackish tail and yellow to pale underparts (only exception is the rufous flycatcher with rufous underparts). They typically forage by perching on an open branch and looking outward and downward for prey, which primarily consists of insects.
