Honduras is divided into 18 departments ( Spanish: ''departamentos''). Each department is headed by a governor, who is appointed by the President of Honduras. Liga de Ascenso (Promotion League) is the second division of Honduran football; it was founded on 17 December 1979 as ''Segunda División'' (Second Division) and renamed ''Liga de Ascenso'' (Promotion League) on 21 July 2002. Gilberto Yearwood
Gilberto Jerónimo Yearwood (born 15 March 1956) is a Honduran former football player who currently is an Assistant coach of the El Salvador national football team. He is by many regarded as one of Honduras' best players of all time. Club career Nicknamed ''el Vikingo'' (The Viking), Yearwood has played mostly in defensive midfield and started his career at Real C.D. España in his native country. In 1977, he moved abroad to play in Spain and spent 10 season playing for Elche CF, Real Valladolid, CD Tenerife and Celta de Vigo. Reynaldo Felipe Pineda García (born 6 August 1978) is a Honduran footballer. He was a member of the Honduran squad that competed at the 2001 Copa America and the 1999 Panamerican Games in Winnipeg. Club career Nicknamed ''el Chino'', Pineda played at Independiente Villela where Chelato Uclés made him debut at his 15 years against Olimpia. Milton Javier Flores Miranda (5 December 1974 – 19 January 2003) was a Honduran football player. Early years Flores was born to Pedro Alfredo Flores and Janneth Miranda in La Lima, Honduras, near sports recreation park named ''Polideportivo Chulavista''.
