LHB Prototype Carriages
The Linke-Hofmann-Busch local traffic prototype coaches were a group of passenger carriages of the Deutsche Bundesbahn. History and usage In 1976, rolling stock manufacturers Waggonfabriken Linke-Hofmann-Busch – today Alstom Transport Germany – and Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm built eleven prototypes of a new low-floor local traffic carriage developed by the Bundesbahn-Zentralamt in Minden. This type was supposed to be a replacement for the n carriages, a type built in great numbers from 1958 onward, which had been considered as inadequately comfortable in the 1970s. Their difference toward the ''n'' carriages was their lower floor height with more comfortable entrances, interior design built to higher standards with a larger seat pitch, big improvements in the heating and ventilation systems and, constructionally, a lower overall weight. Linke-Hofmann
Alstom Transport Deutschland, formerly Linke-Hofmann-Busch, is a German manufacturing company originally established in Wrocław, Breslau (now Wrocław, Poland) to produce locomotives and rolling stock. Its origins lay in the wheelwright business of Gottfried Linke, begun in 1834. After World War II, the company was reestablished in Salzgitter in West Germany. S-Bahn Nürnberg
The Nuremberg S-Bahn (german: S-Bahn Nürnberg) is an S-Bahn network covering the region of Nuremberg, Fürth and Erlangen which started operations in 1987 and is now integrated into the Greater Nuremberg Transport Association (Verkehrsverbund Großraum Nürnberg). The full length of the five current lines is about 277.6 kilometres. The S-Bahn trains are operated by DB Regio Mittelfranken, a subsidiary of DB Regio Bayern. From December 2018 the service was due to be taken over by National Express Germany, however it withdrew from the bidding process on 25 October 2016, so the lines will continue to be operated by DB Regio Mittelfranken for the foreseeable future. The service between Fürth and Erlangen-Bruck has been marred by frequent delays and service restrictions due to the slow construction for four-track expansion. No completion date is given.
