Lê Quý Đôn
Lê Quý Đôn (; 1726–1784) was an 18th-century Vietnamese people, Vietnamese poet, encyclopedist, and government official. His pseudonym was Quế - Đường. He was a native of Duyen Ha village in present-day Thái Bình Province. He is considered one of the most outstanding and prolific Vietnamese savantist of the early modern period. Thuận Hóa
Thuận Hóa (, ) was a historic territory in central Vietnam. It consisted of the modern provinces of Quảng Bình, Quảng Trị, and Thừa Thiên–Huế (historically, Thừa Thiên–Thuận Hóa). In 1306, the king of Champa, Che Man, offered Vietnam two Cham prefectures, Ô (Cham:Vuyar) and Lý (Cham: Ulik), in exchange for a marriage with the Vietnamese princess Huyền Trân.Chapius, p. 85. The Vietnamese emperor Trần Anh Tông accepted this offer, then took and renamed Ô prefecture and Lý prefecture as Thuận prefecture and Hóa prefecture. The Phủ biên tạp lục (chữ Hán: 撫邊雜錄 ''Miscellaneous Chronicles of the Pacified Frontier'' 1776) is a 6 volume Chữ Nho geography by the Vietnamese Confucian scholar and encyclopaedist Lê Quý Đôn. It is a detailed description of the Nguyễn dynasty's territories in Thuận Hóa and Quảng Nam provinces, and covers outlying areas such as the Spratly Islands and Paracel Islands. This text was written in the aftermath of the Trịnh regime's invasion of the long-autonomous Nguyễn territories, which took place in 1774. The Lê court sent Lê Quý Đôn into the newly captured territories to carry out a survey of its natural resources and economic potential, and this text is a result of his research. Vietnamese Literature
Vietnamese literature ( vi, Văn học Việt Nam; chữ Nôm: 文學越南) is the literature, both oral and written, created largely by the Vietnamese. Early Vietnamese literature has been greatly influenced by Chinese literature. As Literary Chinese was the formal written language for government documents, a majority of literary works were composed in Hán văn or as văn ngôn. From the 10th century, a minority of literary works were composed in chữ Nôm, the former writing system for the Vietnamese language. The Nôm script better represented Vietnamese literature as it led to the creation of different poetic forms like Lục bát and Song thất lục bát. It also allowed for Vietnamese reduplication to be used in Vietnamese poetry.
