2013 World Championships In Athletics
The 14th IAAF World Championships in Athletics (Moscow 2013) () was an international athletics competition held in Moscow, Russia, from 10–18 August 2013. Initially, Russia won the most gold medals to top the table for the first time since 2001. It was also the first time ever the host nation took the top of the medal table. However, after disqualification of Russian sprinter Antonina Krivoshapka for doping and following redistribution of medals in the Women's 4 × 400 metres relay (as well as after series of other disqualifications of Russian athletes for doping offences), United States topped the medal table with eight golds. In the overall medal count, the United States won 26 medals in total, followed by Kenya with 12. With 1,784 athletes from 203 countries it was the biggest single sports event of the year. The number of spectators for the evening sessions was 268,548 surpassing Daegu 2011. Jamaica's Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce both won three gold medals in th ...

Athens
Athens ( ; el, Αθήνα, Athína ; grc, Ἀθῆναι, Athênai (pl.) ) is both the capital and largest city of Greece. With a population close to four million, it is also the seventh largest city in the European Union. Athens dominates and is the capital of the Attica region and is one of the world's oldest cities, with its recorded history spanning over 3,400 years and its earliest human presence beginning somewhere between the 11th and 7th millennia BC. Classical Athens was a powerful city-state. It was a centre for the arts, learning and philosophy, and the home of Plato's Academy and Aristotle's Lyceum. It is widely referred to as the cradle of Western civilization and the birthplace of democracy, largely because of its cultural and political influence on the European continent—particularly Ancient Rome. In modern times, Athens is a large cosmopolitan metropolis and central to economic, financial, industrial, maritime, political and cultural life in Gre ...

List Of Medal Sweeps At The World Athletics Championships
A sweep in athletics is when one team wins all available medals in a single event in a sporting event. At the highest level, that would be when one nation wins all the medals in an athletics event at the World Championships in Athletics. In athletics the maximum number of entrants from a single country in most events is three, allowing in theory for athletes from the same country to finish in all three top places. Men Carl Lewis has been a part of four American sweeps. Kenya has swept the 3000 metres steeplechase three times, with Ezekiel Kemboi and Brimin Kipruto a part of two of them. Women Sweeps have only occurred eleven times in women's events. The 10,000 metres is the only event to have had three occurrences, in 2001, 2005 and 2011. Ethiopia had most sweeps, at four. Tirunesh Dibaba and her sister Ejegayehu Dibaba were both a part of two of those sweeps, another sister Genzebe Dibaba and cousin Derartu Tulu gave the family participation in all four Ethiopian sweeps. ...

The women's long jump competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom, was held at the Olympic Stadium on 7–8 August. Only three barely made the auto qualifying mark. Brittney Reese struggled with fouls and finally made a mark on her final attempt. Karin Melis Mey originally qualified for the final, but was pulled after a positive drug test. In the final Ineta Radēviča took the first round lead with a 6.88, while Yelena Sokolova settled into second place. Brittney Reese, who has won every major championship since 2009, fouled her first attempt. In the second round, Reese hit to board cleanly, jumping 7.12. Three jumps later, Sokolova came close with a 7.07. Reese continued to struggle with three more foul jumps, her only other legal jump would have placed her eighth. Her one jump continued her string of championships. Sokolova had another attempt sufficient to get the silver, but could not challenge Reese for gold. Janay DeLoach spent the competition in f ...
