Minsk Region or Minsk Oblast or Minsk Voblasts ( be, Мі́нская во́бласць, ''Minskaja voblasć'' ; russian: Минская о́бласть, ''Minskaya oblast'') is one of the regions of Belarus. Its administrative center is Minsk, although it is a separate administrative territorial entity of Belarus. As of 2011, the region's population is 1,411,500. Geography Minsk Region covers a total of 39,900 km², about 19.44% of the national total area. Lake Narach, the largest lake in the country, is located in the northern part of the region. The Executive Committee of the Petrograd Soviet, commonly known as the Ispolkom (russian: исполком, исполнительный комитет, literally "executive committee") was a self-appointed executive committee of the Petrograd Soviet. As an antagonist of the Russian Provisional Government, after the 1917 February Revolution in Russia, the Ispolkom became a second center of power. It was dissolved during the Bolshevik October Revolution later that year. The Ispolkom are known for the controversial "Order No 1" (and 3) which stipulated that all military units should form committees like the Petrograd Soviet and that the military from every ''political perspective'' should not contradict the Ispolkom. The socialists at the Petrograd Soviet feared that officers were the most likely counter revolutionary elements and the intention of the Order was to limit their power. Lyuban ( be, Любань, Liubań - russian: Лю́бань, pl, Lubań, lt, Liubanė), or ''Ljubań'', is a town in Belarus, located in the Minsk Region. It is the administrative seat of the Lyuban District. As of 2009 its population was of 11,256. History & Famous Residents The town was first mentioned in 1566 and received its town ( be, горад, horad) status in 1968. The famed Mir Mashgiach Rabbi Yeruchom Levovitz was born in Lyuban. The Israeli writer Rakhel Feygenberg (1895–1972) was also born there. The Rabbi of the town from 1920-1936 was Rabbi Moshe Feinstein. His son Rabbi Dovid Feinstein was born there in 1929. World War II The Nazis occupied the town from July 1941 to June 1944. Ludwik Władysław Franciszek Kondratowicz (29 September 1823 – 15 September 1862), better known as Władysław Syrokomla, was a Polish romantic poet, writer and translator working in Vilnius and Vilna Governorate, then Russian Empire. Biography Syrokomla was born on 29 September 1823 in the village of Smolków, in the Minsk Governorate of the Russian Empire (now Smolhava, Minsk Region, Belarus), to an impoverished noble family. His parents were Aleksander Kajetan Kondratowicz (d. 1858) and Wiktoria (née Złotkowska). His uncle was Hilary Kondratowicz (1790–1823), a Polish teacher of maths in gymnasium in Vilnius, who published some articles in '' Wiadomości Brukowe''. A year after his birth his parents moved to another village ( Jaśkowicze). In 1833 he entered the Dominican school in Nesvizh (Nieśwież). He had to give up his studies due to financial problems.
