Lyme-Old Lyme High School
Lyme-Old Lyme High School is a public high school in Old Lyme, Connecticut. It serves grades 9 through 12 and is the only high school operated by Lyme-Old Lyme Schools. History A successful 2009 referendum cleared the way for a 15,000-square foot expansion of the school that wrapped up in 2013. Athletics LOLHS athletic teams are nicknamed the Wildcats and compete in the Shoreline Conference. The school fields a co-op football team with Valley Regional High School, nicknamed the Warriors. In 2019, the Performing arts Lyme-Old Lyme has a competitive show choir, "Amped Up!". Old Lyme, Connecticut
Old Lyme is a coastal town in New London County, Connecticut, United States. The main street of the town, Lyme Street, is a historic district with several homes once owned by sea captains. Lyme Academy of Fine Arts is located in Old Lyme and there is a thriving art community in the town. There are several seasonal beach communities in Old Lyme (Point O Woods, Hawks Nest, Miami Beach). Shoreline Conference is one of the many athletic conferences in Connecticut. The conference consists mostly of schools in Middlesex County, Connecticut, Middlesex County and serves one school in New Haven County and another in New London County. Valley Regional High School (VRHS) is located in Deep River, Connecticut, United States. It serves the three towns of Regional School District No. 4 - Essex, Chester, and Deep River. In its 2011 edition, Newsweek magazine named Valley Regional as one of "America's Best High Schools," ranking 334th out of 500 nationally. Controversies Mascot controversy In the fall of 2019, controversy grew over the Valley Regional High School mascot, the "Warriors". Outcry reached a height after many students, former and current, spoke out, arguing that the mascot was disrespectful towards the Native American community. FIRST Robotics Competition
FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is an international high school robotics competition. Each year, teams of high school students, coaches, and mentors work during a six-week period to build robots capable of competing in that year's game that weigh up to . Robots complete tasks such as scoring balls into goals, placing inner tubes onto racks, hanging on bars, and balancing robots on balance beams. The game, along with the required set of tasks, changes annually. Jim Calhoun
James A. Calhoun (born May 10, 1942) is a longtime college basketball coach. He is best known for his tenure as head coach of the University of Connecticut (UConn) men's basketball team. His teams won three NCAA national championships ( 1999, 2004, 2011), played in four Final Fours, won the 1988 NIT title, and won seven Big East tournament championships (1990, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2004, 2011). With his team's 2011 NCAA title win, the 68-year-old Calhoun became the oldest coach to win a Division I men's basketball title. He won his 800th game in 2009 and finished his NCAA Division I career with 873 victories, ranking 11th all-time as of February 2019. From 2018–21, he served as head coach of the St. Joseph's University men's basketball team.
