Lysiane (Lyli) Herse (6 January 1928 – 4 January 2018) was a French racing cyclist and coach. Biography Herse competed in the first Women's Tour de France in 1955, in which she finished fourth. She won the French national road race title nine times between 1956 and 1967. She later trained Geneviève Gambillon, who won two world titles in road racing in 1972 and 1974. Herse's father, René Herse, was a manufacturer of cycles and she and her husband Jean Desbois took over his business upon his death in 1976. The company ceased production in 1986, and in 2007 Herse sold the brand to an American company. Herse died in Osny, Val-d'Oise Val-d'Oise (, "Vale of the Oise") is a department in the Île-de-France region, Northern France. French National Road Race Championships
The French National Road Race Championship is a cycling race where the French cyclists decide who will become the champion for the year to come. The event was established in 1899, a professional championship was established in 1907 and the women's championship was established in 1951. Several additional categories were added later. The record for victories is by one of the best female cyclists, Jeannie Longo, who has so far won 20 road championships. The winners of each event are awarded with a symbolic cycling jersey which is blue, white and red, just like the national flag, these colours can be worn by the rider at other road racing events in the country to show their status as national champion. The champion's stripes can be combined into a sponsored rider's team kit design for this purpose. Geneviève Gambillon (born 30 June 1951, in Hudimesnil, Manche) is a former French road bicycle racer. She became the women's Road World Champion in 1972 and again in 1974. She retired from competition in 1978 and became a nurse at the hospital in Granville. René Herse
René Louis Théodore Herse (1908–1976) was a French builder of high-quality touring, randonneur and racing bicycles. His works are sought by collectors and riders. Career Herse was born in Caen. He started working on prototype aircraft at the aircraft maker Breguet. In 1938, he introduced lightweight aluminum bicycle components: pedals, cranks, cantilever brakes and stems. In 1940, he began making complete bicycles. Herse was a "constructeur", meaning he built not just the frame but the entire bike. His hand-built bicycles were described as "the pinnacle of French cycling" from the 1940s until his death. Herse died in Paris. Competition successes Herse bikes won technical trials in wartime and post-war France.
