Luxembourg Boy Scouts Association
Scouting in Luxembourg (SiL; formerly ''Luxembourg Boy Scout Association'', LBSA) is a federation of two Scouting, Scout associations serving Luxembourg. In Luxembourg, Scouting was founded in 1914 and became a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1922. SiL has a membership of 5,275 Scouts as of 2011. World Organization Of The Scout Movement
The World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM ) is the largest international Scouting organization. WOSM has 173 members. These members are recognized national Scout organizations, which collectively have around 43 million participants. WOSM was established in 1922, and has its operational headquarters at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and its legal seat in Geneva, Switzerland. It is the counterpart of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). The WOSM's current stated mission is "to contribute to the education of young people, through a value system based on the Scout Promise and Scout Law, to help build a better world where people are self-fulfilled as individuals and play a constructive role in society". Scouting
Scouting, also known as the Scout Movement, is a worldwide youth movement employing the Scout method, a program of informal education with an emphasis on practical outdoor activities, including camping, woodcraft, aquatics, hiking, backpacking, and sports. Another widely recognized movement characteristic is the Scout uniform, by intent hiding all differences of social standing in a country and encouraging equality, with neckerchief and campaign hat or comparable headwear. Distinctive uniform insignia include the fleur-de-lis and the trefoil, as well as merit badges and other patches. The Fédération Nationale des Eclaireurs et Eclaireuses du Luxembourg (''National Scout and Guide Federation of Luxembourg'', FNEL) is one of Luxembourg's Scouting and Guiding organizations. It is a member of the federation Scouting in Luxembourg. This secular association is open to all boys and girls of all religions, race and nationalities. It has about 2,000 members. History Secular scouting in Luxembourg started in 1914. In 1916, twelve local Scout groups founded the Fédération Nationale des Eclaireurs du Luxembourg. The federation was among the founding members of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) in 1922. In 1940, under the German occupation, Scouting was banned in Luxembourg. The Scout groups went underground, some members were arrested in concentration camps. The Lëtzebuerger Guiden a Scouten (''Scouts and Guides of Luxembourg'', LGS) is one of Luxembourg's Scouting and Guiding organizations. It is a member of the federation Scouting in Luxembourg and of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. The Association is open to all boys and girls without discrimination to race, religion or nationality. Its spiritual ideals are based on Christian beliefs and are recognized by the Catholic Church. The association has about 5,000 members organized in 60 local groups. The Bureau de Liaison des Associations Guides du Luxembourg was the national Girl Guides, Guiding federation of Luxembourg. Guiding in Luxembourg started in 1915 and was among the founder members of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) in 1928. The federation consisted of two associations and had a membership of 2,093 Guides in 2008. The membership in WAGGGS was transferred to the Lëtzebuerger Guiden a Scouten in 2017, following the closing down of the second component organization Association des Girl Guides Luxembourgeoises in 2014. Wiltz International Scout Centre
The Wiltz International Scout Centre is situated in Wiltz, in northwestern Luxembourg. During the camping season, it hosts 80,000 Scouts a year from all over the world. The Scout Centre is not a single building but nine chalets and seven campsites surrounding the town. The Scout Centre is run by the local group of the Lëtzebuerger Guiden a Scouten.
