The Bureau de Liaison des Associations Guides du Luxembourg was the national Girl Guides, Guiding federation of Luxembourg. Guiding in Luxembourg started in 1915 and was among the founder members of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) in 1928. The federation consisted of two associations and had a membership of 2,093 Guides in 2008. The membership in WAGGGS was transferred to the Lëtzebuerger Guiden a Scouten in 2017, following the closing down of the second component organization Association des Girl Guides Luxembourgeoises in 2014. Girl Guides
Girl Guides (known as Girl Scouts in the United States and some other countries) is a worldwide movement, originally and largely still designed for girls and women only. The movement began in 1909 when girls requested to join the then-grassroots Boy Scout Movement. The movement developed in diverse ways in a variety of places around the world. In some places, girls joined or attempted to join preexisting Scouting organizations. In other places, all girl groups were started independently; some would later open up to boys, while others merged with boys' organizations. In other cases, mixed-gender groups were formed, some of which sometimes later disbanded. World Association Of Girl Guides And Girl Scouts
The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS ) is a global association supporting the Girl Guides, female-oriented and female-only Guiding and Scouting organizations in 152 countries. It was established in 1928 in Parád, Hungary, and has its headquarters in London, United Kingdom. It is the counterpart of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM). WAGGGS is organized into five regions and operates five international Guiding centers. The Lëtzebuerger Guiden a Scouten (''Scouts and Guides of Luxembourg'', LGS) is one of Luxembourg's Scouting and Guiding organizations. It is a member of the federation Scouting in Luxembourg and of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. The Association is open to all boys and girls without discrimination to race, religion or nationality. Its spiritual ideals are based on Christian beliefs and are recognized by the Catholic Church. The association has about 5,000 members organized in 60 local groups. The Association des Girl Guides Luxembourgeoises (AGGL, ''Association of Luxembourgish Girl Guides'') was a Guiding association in Luxembourg. The association was founded in 1916 under the name ''Les Guides de Luxembourg'' and closed down in 2014. The interreligious and coeducational association served about 220 members in 2008. The AGGL was among the founder members of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) in 1928. In 1960, the membership was transferred to the Bureau de Liaison des Associations Guides du Luxembourg, formed by the AGGL and the ''Lëtzebuerger Guiden'' (since 1994 Lëtzebuerger Guiden a Scouten).
