Luua
Luua (until 1920: ''Ludenhof'') is a village in Jõgeva Parish, Jõgeva County in eastern Estonia. Luua Manor Luua Manor (german: Ludenhof) has a history that goes back to at least 1519, when it was owned by Jürgen von Lude, whose family name is the source of the name of the estate. Subsequently it has belonged to several aristocratic families. In 1682 the Swedish crown assumed control of the estate through one of the so-called reductions, but later it was again in the hands of the aristocracy. The current building is originally from the 1730s but has been heavily rebuilt at various times since. The manor is surrounded by a park, originally designed by Walter von Engelhardt. A splendidly decorated " cavaliers' house", rich in carved wood ornamentation, also belongs to the estate. The manor is now a professional school. Luua Arboretum
Luua Arboretum is an arboretum in Luua, Estonia. The arboretum was founded in 1953 and rapidly grew during the 1950s. By 1962, 2273 plants belonging to 327 taxa had been planted in the arboretum. Subsequently, the arboretum expanded less swiftly because plants from most common species had already been planted. Today the arboretum contains a large number of species, sources give vague numbers of "about 500" or "more than 800". Arthur Von Oettingen
Arthur Joachim von Oettingen ( – 5 September 1920) was a Baltic German physicist and music theorist. He was the brother of theologian Alexander von Oettingen (1827–1905) and ophthalmologist Georg von Oettingen (1824–1916). Biography He studied astronomy and physics at the University of Dorpat, and furthered his education of physics in Paris in the laboratories of Antoine César Becquerel (1788–1878) and Henri Victor Régnault (1810–1878), and afterwards at Berlin in the laboratories of Heinrich Gustav Magnus (1802–1870), Johann Christian Poggendorff (1796–1877) and Heinrich Wilhelm Dove (1803–1879). In 1868 he became a professor at Dorpat, where he founded a meteorological observatory. In 1893 he moved to the University of Leipzig, where he remained until 1919 as a teacher and honorary professor. Counties Of Estonia
Counties ( et, maakond, plural ') are the first-level administrative subdivisions of Estonia. Estonian territory is composed of 15 counties, including 13 on the mainland and 2 on islands. The government (') of each county is led by a ' (governor) who represents the national government (') at the regional level. Governors are appointed by the national government for a term of five years. Each county is further divided into municipalities of two types: urban municipalities (towns, ') and rural municipalities (parishes, '). The number and name of the counties were not affected. Jõgeva County ( et, Jõgeva maakond or ''Jõgevamaa'') is one of 15 counties of Estonia. It is situated in eastern part of the country and borders Ida-Viru County to the north-east, Lake Peipus to the east, Tartu County to the south, Viljandi County to the south-west, Järva County to the north-west and Lääne-Viru County to the north. Eastern European Summer Time (EEST) is one of the names of the UTC+03:00 time zone, which is 3 hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time. It is used as a summer daylight saving time in some European and Middle Eastern countries, which makes it the same as Arabia Standard Time, East Africa Time, and Moscow Time. Reduction (Sweden)
In the Great Reduction of 1680, by which the ancient landed nobility lost its power base, the Swedish Crown recaptured lands earlier granted to the nobility. ''Reductions'' ( sv, reduktion) in Sweden and its dominions were the return to the Crown of fiefs that had been granted to the Swedish nobility. Several reductions are recorded, from the 13th century until this final one of 1680. Background The reductions were fought for by gentry, tradesmen, state servants, and peasantry alike, partly as a way to curb the power of the great aristocratic families and partly as a way to make the state solvent and able to pay its debts. One such reduction, ( sv, Fjärdepartsräfsten) under Charles X Gustav of Sweden in 1655, intended at restoring a quarter of "donations" made after 1632.
