Luster Heights Prison Farm
Luster Heights Prison Farm is a satellite facility of Anamosa State Penitentiary operated by the Iowa Department of Corrections. It is located in the Yellow River State Forest about five miles south of Harpers Ferry. It is situated in Fairview Township, in southeastern Allamakee County. The minimum-security facility houses approximately 60 male inmates, with a capacity of 88. The inmates do work for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources in maintaining the state forest. In particular, they work at a DNR-owned sawmill where 150,000 board feet (350 m³) of lumber are annually processed. In 2006, the Animal Welfare Foundation of Iowa started a program at the facility for inmates to train stray dogs for later adoption. Anamosa State Penitentiary
Anamosa State Penitentiary is a maximum security penitentiary prison located in the Jones County community of Anamosa, Iowa – approximately northeast of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Prison Operation As of 21 February 2016, the penitentiary was home to approximately 855 inmates with another 175 in segregation and has 357 staff members. Inmates working in the Iowa Prison Industries produce metal stamping, custom wood, printing, metal furniture, sign, and cleaning products at the penitentiary. The penitentiary also offers educational services, and has a contract with a community college for such services. The prison offers vocational training in welding, automobile repair, horticultural, and janitorial services. Yellow River State Forest
Yellow River State Forest, (YRSF), is mostly forested land owned by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. It is located in the southeastern corner of Allamakee County, the most northeasterly of Iowa's counties. It is adjacent to the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge and is just north of Effigy Mounds National Monument in the bluff region of the Upper Mississippi River.
