Lur Blowers
The Lur Blowers (Danish: Lurblæserne) is a monument located next to City Hall in Copenhagen, Denmark, consisting of a bronze sculpture of two lur players mounted on top of a tall terracotta column. The monument was a gift to the City of Copenhagen from the Carlsberg Foundation and New Carlsberg Foundation on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of Carlsberg founder J. C. Jacobsen. Design The monument stands tall. The sculpture at the top of the column consists of two male figures standing very close together, wearing capes and helmets, each holding a raised lur. The compactness of the composition is a result of a design change late in the process, since the original design featured only a single lur blower. The decision to change the design was based on the fact that lurs are always tuned in pairs. The two lurs are inverted, as is seen with the Brudevælte Lurs. Gjallarhorn
In Norse mythology, Gjallarhorn (Old Norse: ; "hollering horn"Orchard (1997:57). or "the loud sounding horn"Simek (2007:110).) is a horn associated with the god Heimdallr and the wise being MÃmir. The sound of Heimdallr's horn will herald the beginning of Ragnarök, the sound of which will be heard in all corners of the world. Siegfried Wagner (sculptor)
Siegfried Wagner (13 April 1874 1 August 1952) was a Danish sculptor. Early life and education Wagner was born to Jewish–Danish parents on 13 April 1874 in Hamburg. His father was plumber Joseph Meyer Wagner and his mother was Julie Philipsen. He was adopted by his uncle Julius Jacob Heine and Frederikke Wagner in 1892. The family lived in Kongens Lyngby, Denmark. Wagner attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1889–96. He worked for some time in Vilhelm Bissen's studio and under J.F. Willumsen at Bing & Grøndahl. Wagner worked as a teacher at Tegne- og Kunstindustriskolen for Kvinder in 1898–1900. He married Olga Wagner in 1899. Career Wagner and Mogens Ballin created a metal workshop in Copenhagen in 1900. Vester Voldgade ( lit. "West Rampart Street") is a street in Copenhagen, Denmark which runs from Jarmers Plads to the waterfront between Frederiksholms Kanal and Langebro, passing the City Hall Square on the way. Together with Nørre Voldgade and Øster Voldgade it forms a traffic artery which arches around the Zealand side of central Copenhagen all the way to Kastellet (at Oslo Plads on the coast north of the city centre. Tuborg Brewery
Tuborg is a Danish brewing company founded in 1873 on a harbour in Hellerup, an area North of Copenhagen, Denmark. Since 1970 it has been part of the Carlsberg Group. The brewery's flagship, the Tuborg pilsner, was brewed for the first time in 1880. Anton Rosen
Anton Rosen (13 September 1859 – 2 July 1928) was a Danish architect, furniture designer, decorative artist and professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. In his architecture, he combined a free Historicist style with inspiration from contemporary English architecture and details influenced by Jugendstil. Biography Anton Rosen was born at Horsens in Jutland, Denmark. He was the son of Carl Julius Rose, master mason at the Royal Danish Theatre. The family moved to Copenhagen where he attended the Copenhagen Technical College. In 1877, Rosen was accepted into the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts . Danish National Exhibition Of 1909
The Danish National Exhibition of 1909 or The National Exhibition in Aarhus 1909 (Danish: Landsudstillingen i Aarhus) was an industry, crafts and culture exhibition held in Aarhus, Denmark in 1909 from 18 May to 3 October. The exhibition displayed some 1850 individual works by architects, artists, craftsmen and businesses and attracted 650.000 visitors. The project was a large undertaking for the city with long-lasting effects on cultural institutions and short-term economic problems. The exhibition fairgrounds was named The white City (Danish: Den Hvide By) based on the architectural expression chosen by the leading architect Anton Rosen. The exhibition was generally received well in the press and was widely considered a success.
