Luo Yinguo
Luo Yinguo (; April 1954 – 22 July 2016) was a Chinese politician, mostly known for his tenure as the Communist Party Secretary of Maoming, a city in Guangdong province, between 2007 and 2011. He was convicted of corruption and received a death sentence with reprieve in July 2013, although he died of cancer while in prison in July 2016. Biography Luo was born in Gaozhou, Guangdong province, considered part of the municipal region of Maoming. Luo first worked as an elementary school teacher, then worked as part of a rural commune in his home county. In 1990 he was named county governor of Gaozhou. When the county earned "city" status in 1993, Luo became its first Mayor, and a year later became Communist Party Secretary of Gaozhou. In 1998 he became the Secretary-General of the Maoming Party Committee, and in 2001, became deputy Party Secretary of Maoming. Luo (surname)
Luo or Lo refers to the Mandarin romanizations of the Chinese surnames 羅 (Simplified Chinese: 罗, pinyin: Luó, Jyutping: Lo4) and 駱 (Simplified Chinese: 骆, pinyin: Luò, Jyutping: Lok3). Maoming
Maoming, alternately romanized as Mowming, is a prefecture-level city located in southwestern Guangdong province, China. Facing the South China Sea to the city's south, Maoming city borders Zhanjiang to the west, Yangjiang to the east, and Yunfu to the northeast, and is from Guangzhou and from Zhanjiang. The Maoming Port is a Grade I port that handled 16.8 million tons of cargo in 2007. Refined oil and aquatic products are the major export products from the city. Death Sentence With Reprieve
Death with reprieve (, abbr.: ) is a criminal punishment found in the law of the People's Republic of China. According to the criminal law chapter 5 (death penalty), sections 48, 50 and 51, it gives the death row inmate a two-year suspended sentence of the execution. The convicted person will be executed if found to have committed further crimes during the two years following the sentence; otherwise, the sentence is automatically reduced to life imprisonment or a fixed-term imprisonment if the person is found to have performed deeds of merit during the two years. Unlike pardon (clemency), in which the relief of the penalty is decided after the death penalty has been pronounced, reprieve is pronounced directly in place of the death sentence to the prisoner who has committed the potentially capital crime. Gaozhou
Gaozhou is a county-level city in southwestern Guangdong Province, China. Formerly the primary city in the area, it is now administered as part of the prefecture-level city of Maoming. As of the 20210 census, Gaozhou had a population of 1,328,658 living in its territory, nevertheless its built-up (or metro) area is much smaller. The locals speak a variation of the Gaozhou dialect. Zhou Zhenhong (; born October 1957) is a former Chinese politician, who most recently served as the head of the United Front Work Department of the Guangdong provincial Party Committee. Previously he also served as Communist Party Secretary of Maoming, a city in Guangdong province. Between 2008 and 2013, he served as a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
