Lunglei, Mizoram
Lunglei (Pron: /ˈlooŋgˌleɪ/) is a town, situated in the south-central part of Mizoram state, northeastern India. Lunglei, literally meaning 'bridge of rock' got its name from a bridge like rock found in the riverine area around Nghasih - a small tributary of Tlawng the longest river in Mizoram. It is the largest town after the capital, Aizawl, located 165 km (102 miles) south of Aizawl. History Lunglei was the Capital of South Lushai Hill Districts for 10 years from 1888, as was Aizawl for the North Hill Districts. The two were united in 1898. Lunglei is the second-largest town in Mizoram and was an important town until the partition of India as it had direct access to Chittagong, a big city in Bangladesh which made Lunglei the commercial and education centre. Lunglei Government College
Lunglei Government College is the biggest college in the town of Lunglei, Mizoram. It is graded B++ by NAAC. Talks are underway now with UGC to set up Mizoram University campus in Lunglei Government College campus, thus making it a constituent college of Mizoram University like Pachhunga University College. Karnaphuli River
Karnaphuli ( bn, কর্ণফুলি ''Kôrnophuli''; also spelt Karnafuli), or Khawthlangtuipui (in Mizo, meaning "western river"), is the largest and most important river in Chattogram and the Chattogram Hill Tracts. It is a wide river in the south-eastern part of Bangladesh. Originating from the Saithah village of Mamit district in Mizoram, India, it flows southwest through Chattogram Hill Tracts and Chattogram into the Bay of Bengal. Before the Padma, it was the fastest flowing river in Bangladesh. It is said to "represent the drainage system of the whole south-western part of Mizoram." Tlabung
Tlabung is a census town in Lunglei district in the Indian state of Mizoram. History The township was first established and settled in November 1871 when the Superintendent of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Lt. Col. T.H. Lewin ordered his Assistant Mr. Crouch and 150 soldiers from the Frontier Battalion to build a fort at Tlabung which is to serve the battalion headquarters of the Southern Column of the Lushai Expedition to rescue a young girl named Mary Winchester from the Lushai Chief Bengkhuaia. It was made a part of the South Lushai Hills on 1 April 1898, while it was part of the Chittagong Hill Tracts earlier. It became a flourishing trade center during 1860-70 when Mizo in north and south had less knowledge of commerce. Mizoram Engineering College is the only engineering college in the town of Lunglei, Mizoram. Location Lunglei Government College is located in Pukpui, about from Lunglei. The College has of land. History Mizoram Engineering College was inaugurated on 3rd Feb 2019 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The first department to start functioning will be the Civil Engineering Department for the 2019–2020 academic session. As of December 2020 the college has still not been able to start functioning due to sub-standard level of construction with no basic amenities.
