Luis Arroyo Jr. was a Democratic member of the Cook County Board of Commissioners, representing the 8th district. In 2014 Arroyo defeated incumbent Edwin Reyes to become a Cook County commissioner. In 2015, Arroyo was a key vote to raise the Cook County sales tax. The Cook County Board of Commissioners is a legislative body made up of 17 commissioners who are elected by district, and a president who is elected county-wide, all for four-year terms. Cook County, which includes the City of Chicago, is the United States' second-largest county with a population of 5.2 million residents. Edwin Reyes (American Politician)
Edwin Reyes is an American politician who served as Cook County Commissioner for the 8th district, in northwest Chicago. He held the position as a Democrat from 2009–2014. Education Reyes attended Northern Illinois University in the early 1980s, after which he enlisted in the United States Air Force from 1983-1986 on active duty and eventually earned his bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts from Northeastern Illinois University in 1996. Political career Reyes served as Chief of Staff for Chicago Alderman Rey Colón from 2003–2004. From 2006–2009, Reyes served as a state trooper on the security detail for governor Rod Blagojevich. Luis Arroyo (politician)
Luis Arroyo (born June 13, 1954) is a former Democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives, representing the 3rd District from his appointment in 2006 until his resignation in 2019. Early life and education Arroyo was born in Corozal, Puerto Rico, moving to Chicago at age 13. He attended Pulaski Elementary School and Tuley High School (now Clemente High School) in Chicago. Before being appointed to the state legislature, Arroyo owned a restaurant and was a member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers. Career Arroyo was appointed as Illinois State Representative for the 3rd district in 2006. He was re-elected six times, running unopposed in the primary and general elections in four election cycles.
