Lugu Township () is a rural township located in the southwest of Nantou County, Taiwan. Lugu is known as the home of Dongding Oolong Tea, which was first cultivated on Dong Ding Mountain in the area. Township (Taiwan)
Townships are the third-level administrative subdivisions of counties of the Republic of China (Taiwan), along with county-administered cities. After World War II, the townships were established from the following conversions on the Japanese administrative divisions: Although local laws do not enforce strict standards for classifying them, generally urban townships have a larger population and more business and industry than rural townships, but not to the extent of county-administered cities. Under townships, there is still the village as the fourth or basic level of administration. Nantou County
Nantou County (; Hokkien POJ: ''Lâm-tâu-koān''; Hakka PFS: ''Nàm-thèu-yen'') is the second largest county of Taiwan by area, located in the central part of the country. It is also the only non-coastal county in Taiwan. Its name derives from the Hoanya Taiwanese aboriginal word ''Ramtau''. Dong Ding (; pronounced ), also spelled Tung-ting, is an oolong tea from Taiwan. A translation of Dong Ding is "Frozen Summit" or "Icy Peak", and is the name of the mountain in Taiwan where the tea is cultivated. Fonghuanggu Bird And Ecology Park
The Fonghuanggu Bird and Ecology Park () is a bird park in Lugu Township, Nantou County, Taiwan. History In 1978, the Taiwan Provincial Government decided to build a bird park in Fonghuanggu Scenic Area located in Nantou County and named it Fonghuanggu Bird Park. In April 1979, the Taiwan Provincial Consultative Council passed the proposal to establish the Fonghuanggu Bird Park Planning Committee which would be given task to collect information and conduct site surveys for the bird park construction. After several years the construction planning was completed. The construction was completed at the end of October 1982 and the park was opened on 18 December 1982. On 1 January 2013, the management of the bird park was given to National Museum of Natural Science and the bird park was renamed as Fonghuanggu Bird and Ecology Park. Xitou Nature Education Area
Xitou Nature Education Area or Xitou Bamboo Forest () is a forest park in Lugu Village, Lugu Township, Nantou County, Taiwan. Name ''Xitou'' is derived from a Chinese word with the meaning of the origin of river. History During the Japanese rule of Taiwan, the forest was used as an experimental forest for University of Tokyo students. Later after the handover of Taiwan from Japan to the Republic of China in 1945, the forest was declared a nature reserve and named Xitou Nature Education Area in 1970. On 11 September 2016, a 2,800-year old giant tree fell after long heavy rain, injuring three visitors. Geography The forest is located within a valley of mountain on its three sides and consists of many bamboos. It also has Ginkgo biloba garden.
