Ludwik Żychliński
Ludwik Żychliński (born 1837 in Grand Duchy of Posen, d. after 1901 in Brusno, Lubaczów County) was a Polish patriotic activist, (military officer), and diarist. Żychliński participated in Giuseppe Garibaldi's expedition of Sicily (1860). During the American Civil War, he fought by the Union side (1862–1863). He was a at the January Uprising of 1863–1864. Poznań Voivodeship
Poznań Voivodeship was the name of several former administrative regions (''województwo'', rendered as ''voivodeship'' and usually translated as "province") in Poland, centered on the city of Poznań, although the exact boundaries changed over the years. January Uprising
The January Uprising was an insurrection principally in Russia's Kingdom of Poland that was aimed at putting an end to Russian occupation of part of Poland and regaining independence. It began on 22 January 1863 and continued until the last insurgents were captured by the Russian forces in 1864. It was the longest-lasting insurgency in partitioned Poland. The conflict engaged all levels of society and arguably had profound repercussions on contemporary international relations and ultimately transformed Polish society. A confluence of factors rendered the uprising inevitable in early 1863.
