Ludwik Starski
Ludwik Starski (born Ludwik Kałuszyner, 1 March 1903 in Łódź – died 29 February 1984 in Warsaw) was a Polish Jewish lyricist, sound engineer and screenwriter of the twentieth century. He was the father of the set designer Allan Starski, who often worked with movie director Andrzej Wajda and received the Academy Award for "Best Set Design" for Schindler's List in 1994. Ludwik worked with Eugeniusz Bodo, Władysław Szpilman and with Tadeusz Sygietyński. Before the Second World War he was a journalist with the newspaper ''Express Wieczorny Ilustrowany (The Evening Express)''. He was also a lyricist of songs for cabarets, cafés and theater, including theater ''Qui Pro Quo, Gong, Morskie Oko, Perskie Oko, '' in Warsaw. Some of his songs were performed by singer Irena Santor to the music of composer Władysław Szpilman. ''Robert and Bertram'' (Polish: ''Robert i Bertrand'') is a 1938 Polish comedy film directed by Mieczysław Krawicz and starring Helena Grossówna, Eugeniusz Bodo and Adolf Dymsza. It was inspired by a comedy sketch by Johann Nestroy which was in turn based on an 1856 farce '' Robert and Bertram'' by the German writer Gustav Räder featuring two wandering vagrants with hearts of gold. Irena Wiśniewska-Santor (Polish pronunciation: ; born 9 December 1934), known professionally as Irena Santor, is a Polish singer, musical performer and actress. Her career started in 1950. She's noted for singing in clear mezzo-soprano, considered one of Poland's biggest icons and is referred to as an influence for younger singers. From 1951 to 1959 Irena Santor (then Wiśniewska) was a member and the main soloist of the Polish folk group Mazowsze, with whom she toured all continents. After leaving the group she decided to start a solo career. She has been awarded many prizes in Poland and abroad. Irena Santor made her acting debut in Stanisław Bareja's film Przygoda z piosenką (1968). She appeared in many TV and radio shows and sat on juries for a number of talent shows and song competitions.
