Ludwig Martin
Markus Ludwig Martin (25 April 1909 – 31 March 2010) was a German lawyer. He served as Attorney General of Germany from 7 April 1963 until 30 April 1974. Early life and education Born in Waltenhofen as the son of a dairy worker, Martin was able to take his ''Abitur'' thanks to a teacher, despite his father's opposition. He subsequently went on to study law and economics at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. From 1933 to 1934, he additionally studied philosophy at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. Martin earned his first and second ''Staatsexamen'' in 1932 and 1937 and joined the Bavarian judiciary. Career In 1939, Martin was appointed an investigating judge, later a criminal judge and a scientific associate at the Reichsanwaltschaft. In October 1939, he was appointed district attorney in Nuremberg and Fürth, and in February 1940 in Leipzig. Siegfried Buback
Siegfried Buback (3 January 1920, Wilsdruff, Saxony – 7 April 1977, Karlsruhe) was the Attorney General of West Germany from 1974 until his murder in 1977. Life and career Buback studied at the University of Leipzig. From 1940 to 1945, he was a member of the Nazi Party, while serving as a soldier in World War II. From 1945 to 1947, he was a prisoner of war. In 1953 he became an attorney, and continued his career until 1972 as general attorney. His name first appeared in public in 1962 when he accused the political magazine ''Der Spiegel'' of high treason in the ''Spiegel'' scandal. In 1966, the case lead to a groundbreaking ruling of the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany about the freedom of the press. The Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (german: Verdienstorden der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, or , BVO) is the only federal decoration of Germany. It is awarded for special achievements in political, economic, cultural, intellectual or honorary fields. It was created by the first President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Theodor Heuss, on 7 September 1951. Colloquially, the decorations of the different classes of the Order are also known as the Federal Cross of Merit (). Colonia Dignidad ("Dignity Colony") was an isolated colony of Germans established in post-World War II Chile by emigrant Germans which became notorious for the internment, torture, and murder of dissidents during the military dictatorship of General Augusto Pinochet in the 1970s while under the leadership of German emigre preacher Paul Schäfer.
