Lucía Pulido (born 1962) is a Colombian singer who since 1986 has sung traditional music such as cumbia, bullerengue and joropos. In 1994, she moved to New York, where she has performed traditional music and has sung with jazz musicians. She performed in Vienna with the experimental electronics musicians Christian Fennesz and Burkhard Stangl. Bullerengue is a traditional musical genre and dance from the Caribbean Region of Colombia and the Darién Province in Panama. It is sung and preserved primarily by elderly women, accompanied by local artisan drums, and developed in the Palenques or Maroon communities. Joropo
The joropo is a musical style resembling the fandango, and an accompanying dance. It originated in Venezuela and is also present in the eastern Colombian plains. It has African, Native South American, and European influences. There are different joropo variants: tuyero, oriental, and llanero. It is a fundamental genre of Venezuelan ''música criolla'' ( creole music). It is also the most popular "folk rhythm": the well-known song "Alma Llanera" is a joropo, considered the unofficial national anthem of Venezuela. Christian Fennesz (born 25 December 1962) is an Austrian producer and guitarist active in electronic music since the 1990s, often credited simply by his last name. His work utilizes guitar and laptop computers to blend melody with treated samples and glitch production. He lives and works in Vienna, and currently records on the UK label Touch. Fennesz first received widespread recognition for his 2001 album '' Endless Summer'', released on the Austrian label Mego. Burkhard Stangl (born 6 November 1960 in Eggenburg, Lower Austria) is a composer and musician, currently residing in Vienna, Austria. Playing primarily guitar and electronics, he is a prolific performer in the world of electro-acoustic improvisation, having participated in over 50 recordings. Sofia Eugenia Koutsovitis, known professionally as Sofia Rei, is an Argentinian vocalist, songwriter, producer, and educator. Verónica Valerio (born 1981) is a Mexican harpist, singer and composer. She first performed when she was 19, singing boleros with the Juventud Sonera band in her native Puerto de Veracruz. She went on to study blues in New Orleans before attending the Boys & Girls Harbor conservatory in New York.
