Lucjan Plater
Lucjan Stanisław Count Broel-Plater (born 25 November 1808 in Pomusz, died 12 June 1857 in Parramatta) was a Polish-Lithuanian insurgent and emigration activist, son of Tadeusz, owner of and Pomusz villages, and Rachela Kościuszko. Biography Together with his younger brother Ferdinand he served in the Russian officer school in Dinaburg. The brothers, together with their cousin Emilia, were part of a conspiracy to capture the Dinaburg Fortress. The conspiracy failed, the brothers deserted on 22 April 1831 and joined a unit of Walenty Brochocki, where they received the rank of second lieutenants. After the fall of the uprising, the brothers emigrated via Bavaria to France. Ferdinand took part in the march of the famous "Sacred Host" to help the Frankfurt uprising on 7 April 1833, but was interned in Switzerland. Daugavpils (; russian: Двинск; ltg, Daugpiļs ; german: Dünaburg, ; pl, Dyneburg; see other names) is a state city in south-eastern Latvia, located on the banks of the Daugava River, from which the city gets its name. Emilia Plater
Countess Emilia Broel-Plater ( lt, Emilija Pliaterytė; 13 November 1806 – 23 December 1831) was a Polish-Lithuanian (adjective), Polish–Lithuanian szlachta, noblewoman and revolutionary from the lands of the partitions of Poland, partitioned Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. Raised in a patriotic tradition in Līksna near Daugavpils, she fought in the November Uprising of 1830–1831 against the Russian Empire. She raised a small unit, participated in several engagements in present-day Lithuania, and received the rank of Captain (land and air), captain in the Polish insurgent forces. When the main forces under the General Dezydery Chłapowski decided to cease fighting and cross into Prussia, Plater vowed to continue the fight and wanted to cross into Poland where the uprising was still ongoing. The Polish Democratic Society ( pl, Towarzystwo Demokratyczne Polskie or TDP) was a radical constitutionalist political organization established in Paris by émigrés from the Kingdom of Poland in 1832. While not explicitly socialist with respect to their political program, the Democratic Society nonetheless was influenced by French Utopian socialist thinking of the era and advocated the right of citizens to own land or other means of production. The Polish Democratic Society continued in existence into the decade of the 1840s, when it was a leading voice for agrarian revolution in Galicia. Plater Family
The Plater family is a noble family originating from Westphalia, whose members settled in Livonia and later in Lithuania and Poland. Their original seat was in County of Mark, hence the family's nickname was von dem Broel. The part of the family that moved in 15th century to Livonia used the name Plater or the combined surname Broel-Plater. The Plater-Zyberk branch line was founded by Michał Plater-Zyberk, who married Izabela Helena Syberg zu Wischling, daughter of , the last male representative of the Syberg family. In order to save his wife's family name, he adopted her surname and coat of arms. The Platers returned to Catholicism in the 17th century and held high offices in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and achieved magnate status in the 18th century, with six representatives of the family achieveing a seat in the Senate.
