Luciana Lamorgese
Luciana Lamorgese (born 11 September 1953) is an Italian civil servant and prefect who served as minister of the interior in the governments of Prime Ministers Giuseppe Conte and Mario Draghi from 2019 to 2022. Early life and career Born in Potenza on 11 September 1953, Lamorgese graduated in law and qualified as a lawyer. In 1979, she began working for the Ministry of the Interior, becoming a vice prefect in 1994 and a prefect in 2003. She was prefect of Venice from 2010 to 2013, working alongside Giorgio Orsoni, the elected mayor. In 2017, with the end of the Renzi government, Lamorgese became prefect in Milan, replacing Alessandro Maragoni in the post. On 13 November 2018 she was appointed as a state councillor by the Council of Ministers chaired by Giuseppe Conte, who was forming his first government. The first Conte government was the 65th government of the Italian Republic. It was led by Giuseppe Conte, an independent, and it was in office from 1 June 2018 to 5 September 2019. The cabinet was formed by a coalition between the Five Star Movement and the League, but it also contained some independents proposed by each party (including the Prime Minister). It was referred to as the "government of change" ( it, governo del cambiamento) after the name of the political agreement signed by the two parties, or the "yellow-green government" (), based on their customary colours, even if the League originally preferred "yellow-blue government" (), due to its new campaign colour under Salvini's leadership. The Draghi government was the 67th government of the Italian Republic, led by former President of the European Central Bank, Mario Draghi. It was in office between 13 February 2021 and 22 October 2022. The Draghi government was formed following the resignation of Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte in the midst of a political crisis which led to the Conte government losing its majority. After consultations with political parties, President Sergio Mattarella tasked Draghi with forming a "high-profile" government. Mattarella stated that the new government would have to face the health, economic and social crises related to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as overseeing the EU relief fund associated with it.
