The Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League (sometimes abbreviated as PPL) was an American professional truck and tractor pulling series sponsored by California-based Lucas Oil featuring Super Modified tractors as well as Pro Modified Four-Wheel Drive trucks, Super Modified two-wheel drive trucks, Pro Stock tractors, and hot rod semi-tractor trucks, among other classes. It bills itself as "...showcasing the most extreme vehicles and the most talented pulling drivers in the world." It has been described as the "premiere pulling series" in the United States. Truck and tractor pulling, also known as power pulling, is a form of a motorsport competition in which antique or modified tractors pull a heavy drag or sled along an , track, with the winner being the tractor that pulls the drag the farthest. Forrest Lucas (born February 1942) is an American businessman, the founder of Lucas Oil. Early life Lucas was born in February 1942, in Ramsey, Indiana, where he grew up, the eldest of four children. His parents Raymond and Marie had a small farm in Elkinsville, where he and his three sisters lived in "rural deprivation". He was educated to a high school level. Career Lucas bought his first truck when he was 19, and his first semi-trailer at 21. He got a job with Mayflower Transit. He built up a fleet of 13-14 trucks, and started freight brokerage. National Tractor Pullers Association
The National Tractor Pullers Association (NTPA) is a national tractor pulling sanctioning body in the United States. It was born of a need to unify the rules and classes in the sport of truck and tractor pulling. History The NTPA was founded in 1969 by representatives of eight states (Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Pennsylvania) to establish uniform rules and provide structure to the sport of truck and tractor pulling. Throughout the years, the NTPA has been instrumental in implementation of safety standards in the sport, and is the governing body from which most other truck and tractor pulling organizations, foreign or domestic, copy their rules.
