Luc Winants
Luc Winants (1 January 1963 – 7 February 2023) was a Belgian chess player. He became an International Master in 1986 and an International Grandmaster in 1988. At the time of his death, he had an Elo rating of 2512. Biography Winants earned the title of International Master in 1986 from FIDE with standards met at the 26th Chess Olympiad in Thessaloniki and the Belgian Chess Championship in Anderlecht in 1986. He became a Grandmaster two years later. He took part in eight Chess Olympiad tournaments with the Belgian national team, concluding in 2012 and 2014. He took second prize at the Cappelle-la-Grande Open in 2002. ''Europe Échecs'' is a monthly French-language chess magazine that has been published since 1959 in Nice, France. History and profile ''Europe Échecs'' was founded by Raoul Bertolo (died in 1991), who was at the time president of the French chess federation, in 1959. The 41st Chess Olympiad ( no, Den 41. Sjakkolympiade), organised by the FIDE, Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) and comprising an open and women's tournament, as well as several events designed to promote the game of chess, took place in Tromsø, Norway, between 1–14 August 2014. The organiser was Chess Olympiad Tromsø 2014 AS on behalf of FIDE. A total number of 1,570 players participated at the Olympiad, with 881 in the men and 689 in the women's section. The number of participating teams was 177 from 172 countries in the open section and 136 from 131 countries in the women's section. The main competitive events were held at Mackhallen. The Chess Olympiad is a biennial chess tournament in which teams representing nations of the world compete. FIDE organises the tournament and selects the host nation. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, FIDE held an Online Chess Olympiad in 2020 and 2021, with a rapid time control that affected players' online ratings. The use of the name "Chess Olympiad" for FIDE's team championship is of historical origin and implies no connection with the Olympic Games. Birth of the Olympiad The first Olympiad was unofficial. Watermael-Boitsfort
Watermael-Boitsfort () or Watermaal-Bosvoorde () is a residential suburb of the city of Brussels in Belgium, and one of the 19 municipalities which form the Brussels-Capital Region.
