Europe Échecs
''Europe Échecs'' is a monthly French-language chess magazine that has been published since 1959 in Nice, France. History and profile ''Europe Échecs'' was founded by Raoul Bertolo (died in 1991), who was at the time president of the French chess federation, in 1959. The magazine succeeded ''l'Échiquier de Turenne''. ''Europe Échecs'' is the oldest chess magazine in France still running, and is now edited by the French International Grandmaster, Bachar Kouatly. From 1985 to 1997 Jean-Claude Fasquelle was the chairman of the magazine. He was succeeded by Editions Grasset in the post. It publishes reports of the principal French, European, and world tournaments with numerous parts analysed by the players themselves (regularly featuring the best in the world), as well as presentations of the chess worlds, tactical exercises, articles about strategy, and announcements of future tournaments. Bachar Kouatly
Bachar Kouatly (Arabic: بشار قواتلي) (born 3 March 1958 in Damascus) is a French chess Grandmaster (chess), grandmaster, journalist and activist. He is deputy president of FIDE. He played three times for Lebanon in the World Junior Chess Championship (1975–1977), and represented Lebanon at the Chess Olympiad at La Valletta 1980. He won a zonal tournament at Qatar in 1981 and finished 14th at the 1982 Interzonal tournament in Toluca. Kouatly won the French Chess Championship in 1979. He played for France in five Chess Olympiads (1982, 1984, 1986, 1988, and 1992). He was awarded the titles of International Master in 1975 and Grandmaster in 1989. French Language

International Grandmaster
Grandmaster (GM) is a title awarded to chess players by the world chess organization FIDE. Apart from World Champion, Grandmaster is the highest title a chess player can attain. Once achieved, the title is held for life, though exceptionally it has been revoked for cheating. The title of Grandmaster, along with the lesser FIDE titles of International Master (IM) and FIDE Master (FM), is open to all players regardless of gender. The great majority of grandmasters are men, but 40 women have been awarded the GM title as of 2022, out of a total of about 2000 grandmasters. Since about the year 2000, most of the top 10 women have held the GM title. There is also a Woman Grandmaster title with lower requirements awarded only to women.
