Luc Bourdon (filmmaker)
Luc Bourdon (born 1952) is a Canadian documentary filmmaker and video artist from Quebec known for his 2008 film '' The Memories of Angels''. His other films have included ''La Grande Bibliothèque'' (2005), ''Classes de Maîtres'' (2009) and ''Une vie pour deux'' (2013). A former executive director of the Festival du nouveau cinéma, he was commissioned to create ''50 temps'', a short documentary film about the history of the festival, for the 2021 event on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. Cinema in Canada dates back to the earliest known display of film in Saint-Laurent, Quebec, in 1896. The film industry in Canada has been dominated by the United States, which has utilized Canada as a shooting location and to bypass British film quota laws, throughout its history. Arthur Lipsett
Arthur Lipsett (May 13, 1936 – May 1, 1986) was a Canadian avant-garde director of short collage films. Life and career Born in Montreal into a Jewish family, Lipsett saw his mother, an immigrant from Kiev, commit suicide when he was 10 years of age. His father remarried without consulting Arthur and his daughter, Marian. Despite his difficult past, Lipsett excelled as a student at the École des beaux-arts de Montréal, where his mentor, Arthur Lismer, recommended him to the National Film Board of Canada (NFB). Lipsett joined the NFB in 1958 as an editor. Lipsett's particular passion was sound. He collected pieces of sound from a variety of sources and fit them together to create an interesting auditory sensation. After playing one of these creations to friends, they suggested that Lipsett combine images with the sound collage.
