Loyal Underwood
Loyal Underwood (August 6, 1893 - September 30, 1966) was an American stock actor for Charlie Chaplin's film studio. Biography Born in 1893 in Rockford, Illinois, Underwood's movie debut was in '' The Count'', a 1916 Chaplin short film created for the Mutual Film Corporation. Underwood is uncredited as he was for the four other Mutual shorts in which he appeared. In 1918, Chaplin started work for First National and Loyal Underwood was on hand. He was credited and appeared in all seven First National Shorts which Chaplin directed. Underwood was a short man. Next to the short Chaplin at , he appeared puny and weak. Hence, the comedy of a situation in which such a man is the antagonist; Chaplin's character routinely shrugged him off. Between 1921 and 1927, Underwood appeared in several other lesser known films. ''A Dog's Life'' is a 1918 American Comedy short silent film written, produced and directed by Charlie Chaplin. This was Chaplin's first film for First National Films. Chaplin plays opposite an animal as "co-star". "Scraps" (the dog) was the hero in this film, as he helps Charlie and Edna towards a better life. Edna Purviance plays a dance hall singer and Charlie Chaplin, The Tramp. ''Isn't It Romantic?'' is a 1948 American comedy musical film from Paramount Pictures, directed by Norman Z. McLeod and starring Veronica Lake and Billy De Wolfe. Plot As described in a review in a film magazine, Judge Roberts (Keenan), greatly reduced in circumstances, hides his true financial condition from his daughter Virginia. The film marks the last time Edna Purviance co-starred with Chaplin and the last film he made for First National. ''The Professor'' is a 1919 American silent comedy film made at the Chaplin Studios for the First National film company starring Charlie Chaplin. However, the film was never released or even completed. Chaplin abandoned production after finishing only one sequence: a single reel. Chaplin appears not as his usual Tramp character but as "Professor Bosco," a slovenly showman who brings his flea circus with him when staying at a flophouse. The fleas get loose during the night and create havoc. The surviving film is included in ''Unknown Chaplin'' and on the Criterion Collection '' Limelight'' Blu-ray and release.
