Lower North East Road, Adelaide
Lower North East Road (and its southwestern sections as North Terrace and Payneham Road) is an arterial road in the northeastern suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia. It links the north-eastern corner of Adelaide to Houghton in the Adelaide Hills, and is an urban alternative to North East Road. Route North Terrace starts on the eastern side of the City Ring Route in central Adelaide and heads east until the intersection with Fullarton and Magill Roads, where it becomes Payneham Road and continues northeast though Adelaide's eastern suburbs, crossing Portrush Road, until the intersection with Glynburn and Montacute Roads Road at Glynde, South Australia, where it continues northeast as Lower North East Road to Hope Valley, where it meets the eastern terminus of Grand Junction Road. Kent Town, South Australia
Kent Town is an inner suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. It is located in the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters. History Kent Town was named for Dr. Benjamin Archer Kent (1808 – 25 November 1864), a medical practitioner of Walsall, Staffordshire, who emigrated to South Australia aboard ''Warrior'', arriving in April 1840 with his wife Marjory Redman Kent, née Bonnar, and two children, Benjamin Andrew Kent, and Graham Eliza Kent, who in 1848 married Dr Frederick Charles Bayer (died 15 August 1867). Hydraulic engineer C. A. Bayer and architect E. H. Bayer were sons. Portrush Road, Adelaide
Portrush Road is a major arterial route through the eastern suburbs of Adelaide, the capital of South Australia. This name covers many consecutive streets and is not widely known to most drivers except for the southernmost section, as the entire allocation is still best known as by the names of its constituent parts: Hampstead Road, Taunton Road, Ascot Avenue, Lower Portrush Road, and Portrush Road proper. Montacute Road
Montacute Road is a major arterial road in the South Australian capital of Adelaide, connecting its inner eastern suburbs through to Montacute in the Adelaide Hills. Route Montacute Road starts at the intersection with Payneham Road, Lower North East Road and Glynburn Road at Glynde Corner, Glynde in eastern suburban Adelaide. It travels east, traversing the suburbs of Hectorville, Campbelltown, Newton, Rostrevor and Athelstone. It then enters the Adelaide Hills, leading to its namesake Montacute before terminating at Cherryville. History Money was put aside for the making of a road to Montacute in 1850, to be spent in 1851. River Torrens
The River Torrens , (Karrawirra Parri / Karrawirraparri) is the most significant river of the Adelaide Plains. It was one of the main reasons for the siting of the city of Adelaide, capital of South Australia. It flows from its source in the Adelaide Hills near Mount Pleasant, across the Adelaide Plains, past the city centre and empties into Gulf St Vincent between Henley Beach South and West Beach. The upper stretches of the river and the reservoirs in its watershed supply a significant part of the city's water supply. Hope Valley, South Australia
Hope Valley is a suburb of Adelaide in the City of Tea Tree Gully. History Hope Valley was more the result of random settlement than of actual town planning. Jacob Pitman first purchased an section (Section 824) in 1839. In the early 1840s he sold a few allotments. One such allotment was purchased in 1841 by his friend William Holden (journalist), William Holden who set up a butcher's shop and general store. The site of this store was near the present corner of Grand Junction Road, Grand Junction and Valley Roads. Holden is credited with naming the area "''Hope Valley''" after returning home in 1842 to find that his house and business had burnt down in a Bushfires in Australia, bushfire, but rather than becoming despondent, he felt optimistic. Holden left the area in 1851 to pursue a career in journalism. Hope Valley was mainly settled by German settlement in Australia, German emigrants escaping religious persecution.
